McDonald's przegrywa proces przeciwko szefowi kuchni Jamiemu Oliverowi, który udowodnił, że żywność, którą sprzedają, nie nadaje się do spożycia przez ludzi, ponieważ jest wysoce toksyczna.

To było jakieś osiem lat temu... ale nikogo to nie obchodziło... Szef kuchni Jamie Oliver wygrał proces z największą na świecie siecią restauracji typu fast-food.

Oliver pokazuje, jak powstają hamburgery.

Według Olivera, tłuste kawałki mięsa są „myte” wodorem amoniaku, a następnie wykorzystywane do wypełniania hamburgerów w owijkach na kotlety. Prezenter telewizyjny twierdzi, że już przed tym procesem mięso to nie nadawało się do spożycia przez ludzi.

Oliver, radykalny szef kuchni i aktywista, który stawia czoła przemysłowi spożywczemu, mówi:
„Mówimy o mięsie sprzedawanym jako karma dla psów, a następnie podawanym ludziom. Oprócz negatywnego wpływu na jakość mięsa, kwas amonowy jest szkodliwy dla zdrowia”. Oliver nazywa to „procesem różowego tuczenia”.

Która zdrowa na umyśle osoba włożyłaby dziecku do ust kawałek mięsa nasączony amoniakiem wodorowym?

W innym przedsięwzięciu Oliver zademonstrował, jak powstają nuggetsy z kurczaka: po wybraniu „najlepszych części”, reszta – tłuszcz, skóra, chrząstki, oczy, kości, głowa, stopy – jest poddawana działaniu mieszanki Mec-Split zwanej Canica – eufemizmem używanym przez inżynierów żywności. Ta krwistoróżowa pasta, która jest dezodoryzowana, wybielana, odświeżana i ponownie barwiona, jest następnie obtaczana w mące i smażona w głębokim tłuszczu. Pozostaje w zazwyczaj częściowo uwodornionych olejach, innymi słowy, w substancjach toksycznych.

Przemysł spożywczy wykorzystuje wodór amonowy jako środek antybakteryjny, co pozwala McDonald's na stosowanie w hamburgerach mięsa nienadającego się do spożycia przez ludzi.

Jeszcze bardziej alarmujący jest jednak fakt, że substancje na bazie wodoru amonowego są uznawane za „legalne składniki procesu produkcyjnego” w przemyśle spożywczym na całym świecie, za zgodą organów ochrony zdrowia. Konsumenci nigdy nie dowiedzą się zatem, jakie substancje znajdują się w ich żywności.

So here we have an official at the World Cup in the US literally holding up the complete match with his arm in the air, not for injuries, not for football reasons,but because the TV network hasn’t finished selling their ads.
At this point, it’s not a match anymore, it’s a broadcast schedule with a ball occasionally rolling around.

A World Cup official stopping play mid-game so the broadcasters can finish their commercials.
Nothing says “beautiful game” like football taking orders from an ad break. It’s not a sport at that point,it’s a TV product with a pitch attached.

Imagine watching a World Cup match where the referee is told to wait because the commercials aren’t done yet.
That’s not football, that’s a glorified ad break pretending to be a sporting event.
Just some meaningless content between commercial slots.

I don't think anybody really grasps how desperate this situation is.

University professors are now saying they are unable to teach history because reading long books and passages is how a person learns history. College kids are incapable of reading more than a few pages.

Some classes don't assign any reading at all now, only lectures.

There is an assumption among the people managing this decline that reading is just a way of receiving information. It isn't. Proper reading is how we build the mental muscle to synthesize ideas and evaluate them.

If the catastrophic decline in reading and literacy is not addressed now, we risk losing everything.

Western civilization cannot survive the death of reading because it was built by people with the kind of cognitive depth that a culture of deep reading brings:

Complex reasoning, extended internal dialogue, the capacity to hold opposing ideas in tension. Our systems and institutions are complex, and they require well ordered minds to maintain them.

Reading forms minds, and the West was built by the richest minds in history.

Earlier this summer my wife and I decided to count/catalog our library. All non-fiction now organized by subject and language, and fiction by author and language (5 tongues between the 2 of us). 12,000+ books in total.
