Why must I repeat this?! YOU are the best sports columnist in Detroit but, sadly, have a limited audience. YOU need to get an agent or a rep & have him tell @freepsports & @detnews_sports about you!
And since the tragic death of Pat Caputo, @OaklandPress would be better for you.
Sadly we only remember umpires' names after wrong calls.
How many people associate the great Doug Harvey (a NATIONAL LEAGUE umpire btw) with making the RIGHT call when Brock was tagged out in Game 5 of the 1968 WS? #Tigers#StlCardinals
@GregEno He does flinch and I think itโs just more evidence that some umpires would rather be the center of attention and create a moment that people argue about than make the right call.
I'll die on this hill.
Look at Joyce closely. His physical instinct was to call the runner out. He flinches. Then he makes the safe call. I THINK Jim's brain's wiring fucked him up. He WANTED to call the runner out but his brain "told" his arms to signal safe. #Tigers
@CourtsideAura You're insane if JJ intentionally wanted to have his illustrious career tainted by this call. Did Don Denkinger want to be known as the guy who cost the Cardinals the WS in 1985?
@1015elvis@BradGalli But had Miggy let the 2B handle, would Donald have clearly beaten the throw? Lemme look again. Still, your take is EXTREMELY 20/20 hindsight. First basemen make that move routinely.
Even the wins are ugly
On a day where they hit 5 HR they still tried to give it away late
Credit Will Vest. Came in with the bases loaded and the defense melting down around him. Still bared down after his double play ball was botched
End with a 40 pitch 5 out save
