2/2: Now on stage at Vertigo: The Lodger (until October 25), with several great new mysteries planned for later this season. Visit them at https://t.co/Uitp9ryQdh

1/2: I toured the Vertigo Theatre at the base of the Calgary Tower with new Executive Director Breanne Harmon, Artistic Director Jack Grinhaus, and past chair Misheck Mwaba (also President of Bow Valley College).
Thank you to Esther Olatunji for inviting me to speak at the Black Business Summit at Platform Calgary, hosted by Connecting the Dots. I had the chance to talk with people starting small businesses and becoming entrepreneurs. Very inspiring!

I again participated in Pokaiks Society's Reconciliation Walk (Pokaiks means "children" in Blackfoot), an Indigenous-led non-profit committed to "reconciliACTION" through arts & culture. Orange shirts mean every child matters.

2/2: There are several events happening around Calgary today. The Chamber of Commerce has assembled a full list which you can consult here:

[picture from Pokaik's Walk last year].
1/2: Today is Natl Day for Truth & Reconciliation; also Orange Shirt Day as visible reminder of children whose language & culture were taken away. Reconciliation takes time & consistent effort to ensure Indigenous Cdns are fully respected. Today reminds us of that responsibility.

Along with fellow Parliamentarians and members of the diplomatic corps, I was pleased to attend the Eid Milad un-Nabi Conference last week, commemorating Prophet Muhammad's Birthday.

Happy Thanksgiving to the Korean community who celebrated Chuseok this weekend, their largest holiday. The 3-day festival began Friday & marks the autumn harvest, typically celebrated as a family reunion & ancestral honour. μΆμ μ 보λ΄μΈμ

From last evening to sundown on October 2, the Jewish community is celebrating Sukkot, the annual harvest and thanksgiving festival. Chag Sukkot Sameach to my Jewish neighbours and friends!

4/4: This is unsustainable. At some point, governments will have to make some very hard choices.
I alerted my colleagues to this impending crisis in the House on Wednesday.
1/4: This summer, we saw several federal govt spending announcements of money that was not included in the $65 billion deficit projected in the spring budget. This matters, and risks becoming a crisis.
#calgarycentre#yyc#cdnpoli#CanadaEconomy#debt
https://t.co/QSL8xMuqAk
3/4: That means even more of the country's annual budget will be dedicated to paying interest on debt, not to services for Canadians.
We already pay $57 billion in interest per year to lenders, without paying a cent against the outstanding debt.
@wwjwdo@DaneLloydMP Problem with #2 as a "message to Canada" is it will result in years - not months, YEARS - of economic instability, loss of investment & jobs, while consultations & arguments linger on - and that's BEFORE a 2nd vote. It won't be resolved in 6-12 months. It's a 3-5-year "hold".
Asked about AB's referendum & why Conservatives want a strong AB in a strong Canada, with @DaneLloydMP, I noted Albertans' legitimate frustrations, but Ottawa should treat AB fairly through meaningful policy change not separation.
#calgarycentre#yyc#cdnpoli#AlbertaReferendum
This govt created a financial reality where Cdns are asked to take on more debt, pay more interest & accept a lower standard of living than the last generation. Work harder, expect less is not the legacy we should leave our children. My remarks today:

Warm wishes to those marking the Day of Atonement. May today be a beacon of wisdom and hope for a healthy and successful year ahead.

I toured Interpro Pipe & Steel in Ogden in #calgarycentre. Thank you Ken Wilson, Director of Operations, and team. Thanks also to United Steel Workers Local 6673 for the work they do in advocating for the industry and those critical skilled jobs.

2/2: There is a fee of $995 for airfare, accommodation & meals (bursaries available if cost is an obstacle). Applications close Oct 25. This is a remarkable program. Many of today's politicians & decision-makers started here.
#calgarycentre#yyc#cdnpoli#forumforyoungcanadians
1/2: Applications are now open for the Forum for Young Canadians. 300 youth age 15-18 will convene in Ottawa in one of three one-week fully immersive sessions to learn about government and politics next spring.
