How is requiring a photo ID to vote controversial?

According to Pew Research, 83% of Americans support requiring a government issued photo ID to vote.

Here’s how things stand today:

Only 23 states require a photo ID to vote.

13 more require some form of identification.

14 states (plus D.C.) do not require voters to show any ID at the polls. 👀

Yet we need an ID for:

- Boarding a commercial flight
- Opening a bank account
- Buying a home
- Renting an apartment
- Renting a car
- Buying alcohol
- Buying tobacco products
- Purchasing a firearm
- Collecting Social Security benefits
- Getting a passport
- Obtaining a driver’s license
- Registering a vehicle
- Picking up prescriptions
- Checking into a hotel
- Purchasing a cell phone
- Entering a nightclub

But requiring an ID to hire the most powerful employee in America is considered offensive?

By the way, California is one of the states that does not require a photo ID to vote.

@AB_RAYN26 @patrickbetdavid Just personal experience. Last three major elections I park, walk in, show my id, get a ballot, put it in a machine, and walk out. Ten minutes. Exceptions shouldn’t make up the rule. Most Americans should be able to do this, and the exceptions should be extremely stringent.

@PeterDiamandis Wouldn’t have minded it if you didn’t add the control part. If you choose it so be it, I don’t want to be forced to have it even if it’s an option that can be turned off. Safety vs Control can lead to Safety vs Personal Freedoms.
