The only way quality of life goes up from here is with carbon-free energy. It's going to be a bumpy road to get there, though.

Very broadly, QoL correlates with total energy usage.

We can lower the cost of energy by transitioning away from fossil fuels without effecting QoL

The problem is that climate change will most affect the poorest countries. We in the West will see the impacts, but throwing money at the problems will line the pockets of some while offsetting the worst of it here.

A "climate war" may just be the catalyst for something to seriously start happening.

One thing is for certain, though: Energy companies will continue to make as much money as possible for as long as possible.
