@7UP G’day 7UP, have been enjoying your Zero range while traveling in Europe and SE Asia, when are we going to see it Down Under? We might be far, but we like the fresh flavor! 🇦🇺
@sbxr@adamhillscomedy Yes. But matters that relate may be addressing matters that did relate- which is my point. And no, they don’t have a voice the same as the rest of us - our society has spent the better part of 235 years not letting them speak in their own right on their own land.
@sbxr@adamhillscomedy But the effects of the laws previously made under that section? Why should First Nations not have a voice to raise how new law might address the impact of previous law. We took their voice away now we can give it back.
@sbxr@adamhillscomedy And I referred to remedy in a legislative sense - laws made under s51 still impact today, the Voice provides a way for First Nations to advise on how new legislation will impact their communities - this includes the opportunity for them to support positive legislation.
@sbxr@adamhillscomedy I think you are attempting to raise the specter of “reparations”. In my view that would be just, but it is also nothing that has been proposed either in the Statement from the Heart, or in the proposed Voice to Parliament. But I think you know that already.
@sbxr@adamhillscomedy It is also about remedy. And a way to raise with Parliament way in which proposed laws might cause further harm. It’s a voice, not a legislature. It’s a voice for a people who used to be 100% of the population and made their own choices and have had choice and voice taken away.
@sbxr@adamhillscomedy That only removes the power of the Commonwealth to make special laws, it does not give the people about who those laws have been made a voice in how best to remedy the harm those laws have caused.
@sbxr@adamhillscomedy “Oh and yeah, you lot, you are now only 3% of the population instead of 100% and this document, the constitution says we can make whatever laws we like about you and you are stuffed because there are not enough of you to change it so you can’t have a say in how we run your lives”
@Greybeard3 British food (and in Australia, British style food) has been a main driver in the acceptance of immigrants, all of whom seem to have some better snacks.
@manthatcooks Statistically there was a point right before invasion that First Nations people represented 100% of the theoretical census had one been conducted at that time. That alone justifies having a Voice to Parliament.
