@PresPaul2024@HamRadioJoe@alpowersaj@gtconway3d All these comparisons to criminal proceedings are irrelevant—impeachment is a political process. You may not agree with how it’s being handled but there’s nothing unlawful or unconstitutional here.
Trump pardoning a guy indicted by the Trump Justice Department for defrauding Trump supporters over the fake Trump wall is a fitting ending to the Trump presidency.
@rapscalion3@rj23231@DC_Draino Because they have different voting systems. He’s right, we basically can’t sustain a 3d party unless we move to a different system (e.g. RCV).
@3rdTimeUnder@rj23231@DC_Draino Honest question—if you really believe that, shouldn’t you just expatriate? I mean clearly the conspiracy is so deep and wide that there’s no hope of any kind. (Obviously I 100% disagree with your premise but just curious.)
@NessOfTheLeaf @AuthorNinaPerez @Venividivicigam@ometricem @BLACKSUBURBANJ @actatumonline No, you can’t. In the Trump era at least counterfactual views on immigration are quite widespread. No real analog for POC that I’m aware of—certainly not your example.
@NessOfTheLeaf @AuthorNinaPerez @Venividivicigam@ometricem @BLACKSUBURBANJ @actatumonline All she said was that poor white people get “tricked into believing all their problems are because of brown people”—is that even controversial? I don’t see any hate here, just truth.
@BrooksOakley13@IgmaSigma@FormerlyCBM@justinamash You may disagree and I understand. Just laying out my view. I think this is relevant to the above conversation because, in my framing, supporting the GOP bc one is “pro-life” is absurd—you just end up taken advantage of by people who have no intention of doing anything to help.
@BrooksOakley13@IgmaSigma@FormerlyCBM@justinamash In other words, address actual causes. Pro-lifers also need to deal with evidence that legal prohibition will absolutely not end abortion, and wrestle with the actual consequences of criminalization. The war on drugs is the correct parallel, not the abolition of slavery.
@BrooksOakley13@IgmaSigma@FormerlyCBM@justinamash I just don’t see how that behavior is consistent with caring about the reality of abortion in the US. It is entirely consistent with just wanting to make ppl angry at the other side for political gain, however.
@BrooksOakley13@IgmaSigma@FormerlyCBM@justinamash I’m just curious. I genuinely don’t understand—I think there is next to 0 chance that abortion will ever be illegal again in America, and law, popular opinion, and SCOTUS behavior all appear to support that. On top of that, GOP generally doesn’t do anything to reduce abortions.
@BrooksOakley13@IgmaSigma@FormerlyCBM@justinamash 1. What evidence do you have that making it illegal is politically possible? 2. What efforts can you point to by GOP to reduce number of abortions that are not legal prohibitions?
