In Aug 2023, after going public with their union, nearly the entire union at Grindr was laid off.
Since then, many are still unemployed or have had to accept positions that pay far less than what they were making at Grindr.

Today, workers at Grindr made a significant step forward to winning their union election to be represented by @GrindrUnited-CWA! ✊
After the NLRB counted more votes from the December election, the workers maintained what appears to be an insurmountable lead, despite a relentless union-busting campaign by Grindr management, which began immediately after workers announced their intention to form a union. Despite the illegal actions of management, Grindr workers continued to organize and are on the road to beating the union busters outright.
The NLRB will decide whether additional ballots need to be counted, and the process could take months. The remaining uncounted ballots were cast by former employees who were effectively terminated when union-busting firm Littler Mendelson helped management develop a return-to-office policy that forced them out. Those workers are overwhelmingly in favor of forming a union, and their ballots are predicted to only widen the workers’ lead.
This win would be historic, both for workers in the tech industry and for the LGBTQA+ community of Grindr users. Grindr workers organized in response to policy changes which they believed would jeopardize the privacy and safety of the app’s users and to strengthen working conditions for all workers. Workers are demanding a voice in changes that impact their work and the Grindr community.
Yesterday, our election was held - the count was ✨19-13✨ in favor of @GrindrUnited! There are more ballots that are being challenged on both sides, so the result is not final - but we ultimately expect our victory will stand as the proceedings continue to shake out.
Nearly ONE MILLION unionized workers won double-digit pay hikes in the last year.
Deals won by UAW, UPS & Teamsters, Kaiser Permanente workers, Hollywood writers & actors, hospitality workers, and so many more
Unions are the strongest they’ve been in decades, and it’s glorious.
In light of what we’ve faced during our campaign, this preliminary count demonstrates how strongly we feel about our cause, the community we serve, and how much we care for each other as workers and colleagues. 🏳️🌈
We’re so proud of everyone who turned out to cast their vote and make their voice heard. Forming our union has been a difficult process as we’ve faced an egregious union-busting campaign including layoffs of many, many supporters.
WORK STOPPAGE: We are walking out this afternoon in protest of @nytimes flagrant disregard for our rights as union members – including attempts to intimidate us over its unlawful return-to-office policy. Join us at our rally or at IG @nytguildtech#RTNO#unionstrong
Grindr told engineers on August 3rd that they were no longer permitted to work out of LA or NYC, cities where Grindr has existing offices, as part of their relocation mandate. A few days ago, they posted this role
When you see roles open at companies that recently union-busted, be aware that taking an offer for a role that was previously filled by a union employee laid off in retaliation is nearly as bad as being a scab!
Alarming to see other companies using the same tactic that we experienced to functionally lay their employees off. We hope our case can set a precedent that forcing hired-remote employees to relocate or quit is not an acceptable action for a business to take
💻 Some remote employees at Roblox are being asked to move from their previous homes, and relocate to Roblox’s headquarters in San Mateo.
If certain remote employees don't transition by mid 2024, Roblox will let them go, & they'll receive severance packages & bonus benefits.
https://t.co/QWwhqr5CAM Our current CEO’s former company just went bankrupt. We want a union so we can have a voice in holding leadership accountable to responsible, user-focused business decisions. We want to avoid an outcome like this. We want Grindr to thrive.
We don’t feel amazing about this open role given our CEO’s history of donating to anti-labor, anti-LGBTQ politicians such as Lindsey Graham and Tom Rice
we’re excited for the @NLRB to help decide whether Grindr retaliated by mandating a majority of employees to either relocate or leave their roles two weeks after we announced our union
it’s interesting that Grindr’s blog post about their relocation mandate originally included the highlighted sentence, which was quickly edited out https://t.co/RASb2fN4vP
