If we take glance at the history of world, the Holocaust, Rwanda genocide, Armenian genocide, Ukrainian Holodomor, Maya genocide in Guatemala and the massacre of Indonesian people are among the recognized genocides. These are the absolute cruelties inflicted upon the colonized by powerful states during the period of colonization.
This is also representing the cunning behavior of the world which remains silent while people are being killed and entire societies are being destroyed. But after a whole nation is destroyed, the time comes for the documentation and investigation, human rights organisations and scholars are seen engaged in competition.
If we shed a light on Balochistan, a Nation is deprived of its fundamental rights to life through violence, people are uprooted from their homeland, its sovereignty is taken away and the land is colonized. The national identity, language and culture, social norms, and economy are being destroyed. People are made corrupt and dehumanised, and are forced to live a miserable life. The people are being exploited to such an extent that it has created a national crisis, including severe economic exploitation. Pakistani colonialism has affected every walk of their lives, they cannot live a normal life. Anyone can be forcibly disappeared at any time and from any place. The dumping of the bodies of Balo-ch people, including political workers and others associated with the national resistance, hasbecome normalized.
Most of the population of Balochistan is deprived of basic facilities and a significant number of the people are living a refugee-like life. All these are acts through which, I argue, thegenocide of the Baloch is being carried out. The only difference is that it has not been recognized by the world, for the reasons I have discussed earlier

If we take a closer glance at the genocidal acts of Pakistani state in Balochistan, the crux of Ahmad Shahid’s book “Masakh Shodah lash” (The Mutilated dead body) is not enough to portray its full extent. It is common knowledge that Balochistan can embrace this world in its geographical location, but in this geographical space, no one has dared to capture the scattered bones of the people, the mutilated bodies lying on the rocks, deserts and cities, and the bloody scenes on camera, and to document the stories. Balochistan is a place where the Western media filmed the Russian aggression in Ukraine. How the Arab media photographed human remains in the ruins of Gaza. But the ruins of Balochistan do not become the adornment of the media nor do the human bodies find a place in the world’s eyes.
Under the shadow of this state’s genocide and Barbarism, Baloch Students Organization Azad (BSO Azad), launched a campaign through the medium of alternative media I.e. social media to show these scattered stories to world, through which Pakistan is seen as a champion of international peace and through which the US, by becoming a facilitator of human rights, is concerned about human rights violations in Lebanon and Tehran.
Lalla Baloch conducted an interview with spokesperson of historically active organization BSO Azad on state violence and genocide. The interview sought to gain insight into the organization’s prospective on social media campaign as well as to understand the state’s genocide against Baloch people, the realities on the ground and the border political landscape in Balochistan.

Javed Akhtar, son of Master Akhtar Baloch, was born in December 1983 in Buleda, District Kech. He studied matriculation from his home town Buleda, and later went Kech for further study. He did his intermediate and B.A degree at Atta Shad Degree College, Turbat. It was the turning era of Baloch politics in the 21st century when surface student politics was at peak and Baloch youth were engaged in studying and observing the world politics. They were becoming conscious and focused on Baloch society to bring the people in direction of national liberation movement.
Javed Akhtar was a intermediate student when he joined the student politics under the banner of Baloch Students Organisation Azad. At his early age, he began participating in the political activities to not only make himself politically educated but campaigning to educate other youth of his surroundings. He mobilised the youth as a member of the organisation. He was a committed and courageous student worker, later he was elected as president of BSO Azad, Buleda Zone. He was a hardworking member of the organization and played an important role in organizing the Baloch youth under the banner of BSO Azad in his area. He worked day and night without any personal interests, to make the organisation more organised and active in the region. And he was successful in his dream, making youth of Buleda politically educated and uniting them under the one banner to struggle for the independence of Balochistan.
He believed in political struggle and was targeted for exercising his right to peaceful political expression. He was seriously injured by the firing of Pakistan’s FC during a public gathering in Buleda on August 26, 2006. The mass gathering was organized by BSO Azad in reaction to the martyrdom of Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti. He didn’t run, rather confronted the tyrant Pakistani army and taught us to resist. He was targeted by security forces in front of hundreds of people, after which he was shifted to Karachi for medical treatment, but he did not survive. He was seriously injured by the firing of FC on 26, and later passed away in a hospital of Karachi on 6 September, 2006.
He was killed because, he didn’t bow or stand back when Baloch nation was colonised, rather he resisted and struggled for the legitimate demand of Baloch nation’s freedom and sovereignty. He worked as a member, then served as zonal president of BSO Azad, never hesitated to mobilise the youth until he took his last breath on 6 September, 2006. He is buried in his hometown Buleda.
BSO Azad pays richest tribute to the fallen comrade, Javid Akhtar on his twentieth martyrdom anniversary. We do not only remember our martyr comrades but it is our solemn promise that this caravan will be struggling more organised and consciously until the complete liberation and restoration of our nation state, Balochistan.

A plan is being implemented for the forced evacuations in Balochistan and to force the population to live as internally displaced persons (IDPs). This broader plan has been adopted previously in different parts of Balochistan where the people were displaced and were forced to leave their houses and forebears. It is now being implemented again in different parts of Balochistan including Shadi Kaur and Mastung areas. Such plans have always been practiced against the oppressed and colonised nations by the colonial rulers like the Pakistani state. The Baloch nation has been facing such violence and oppression since 1948 by the Pakistani coloniser.
The recent forced evacuation is typical of that of the Gaza-type internally displaced persons (IDPs), where the population has been forced to live in camps rather than in their own houses. This is one of the most alarming barbarism being carried out against the Baloch nation. The situation is very serious and severe where people are being forced to leave their villages, land and property and continue their lives in camps. Their belongings are being confiscated and they are facing serious violence from the Pakistani state security forces. The people have been told that they have to leave all their properties including agriculture, livestock and assets and migrate from their ancestral lands.
The forced evacuation is not only displacing the people from their houses, but destroying their lives and peace. This means that the people will lose their ancestral land and property and the security forces will bulldoze everything the people had owned. The Pakistani security forces will establish their monopoly and control over the region and violently attack the people of the area with impunity. In Balochistan, the Pakistani state, in trying to deter the Baloch national liberation struggle, has always committed brutality against the civilians. Now, the same forced evacuation of IDP is the continuation of such atrocities against civilians. The security forces have never been able to prevent the attacks being carried out by the freedom fighters, so in retaliation the army has launched brutal operations against the innocent civilians.

Tariq Baloch, son of Mohammad Ashraf was born on September 12, 1993, in Mastung city of Balochistan. He was from the historical centre of Baloch national politics, Mastung. He completed his early education in his hometown and did his intermediate in the same city. For further study, he went to Shaal and began preparing for medical examination. After working hard, he passed the medical examination and got admission in MBBS at Khyber Medical Collage, Peshawar.
At the college, he was a hardworking student in his field, and conscious student who began participating in student activities. He formally joined student politics on the platform of Baloch Students Organisation Azad. He was active in reading various books and debating in his circle. He was soon accepted in the political circle as brilliant and influential cadre of the organisation and was elected as president of BSO Azad Peshawar Zone. In his zonal presidency, he struggled hard in the region and mobilised the Baloch youth for the Baloch liberation movement. He organised the organisation and made m the Baloch youth united on a single platform of national struggle.
He studied medicine and MBBS not only as a profession but a path to love and serve the humanity in practical sense. The oppression and colonialism of his nation made him courageous to fight against it and the BSO got him more conscience and knowledgeable cadre. When the Pakistani state atrocities and crackdown on peaceful Baloch political workers were on peak, everyone was being targeted, he didn’t lose his strength neither he stepped back. He stood among the students and continued his peaceful political struggle for the oppressed Baloch nation.
He, like other activists of BSO Azad, was seen as threat against the colonial rule of the barbaric Pakistani state. He was on his vacation in Quetta when he was abducted by intelligence agencies of Pakistan state. He was forcibly disappeared along with his fellow comrade Mehmood Baloch on 8, August 2011. After detaining for ten days, his mutilated dead body was dumped in Ganjadori, Mastung on August 18, 2011 by intelligence services of Pakistani state. His body was bearing severe signs of torture.
Recognising his national responsibility he joined the national struggle when he was pursuing his medical degree. BSO Azad pays richest tribute to its fallen comrade and reminds the Baloch youth to remember the sacrifices of our fallen comrades who struggled against the Pakistani colonialism over Balochistan till their last breath. He is always remembered is a student hero among the ranks of the organisation and in the struggle for Balochistan’s liberation.

As Balochistan has been occupied by colonial Pakistani state for last eight decades. To regain its independence, Baloch nation has been struggling in various fronts according to international laws. To continue its colonial rule over Balochistan and silence the political activists and Baloch masses, Pakistan has been using illegal actions against Baloch. The enforced disappearances is at the top of these crimes. The state has now normalised this illegal practice with various forms and policies.
In this half year of 2026, more than 800 Baloch students, political activists, teachers, doctors, labourers, shopkeepers and other civilians have become victim of enforced disappearances by Pakistani military and intelligence services. The victims include women, girls, minor children, elderly people and youth. Aging from eight years to sixty years old people, while a reported case of 1.5 years old minor child named Zakir from Mastung is also included.
Every family of Balochistan has become victim of enforced disappearances, in result of this crime they have been living in trauma while normal life in Balochistan has been completely paralysed. The victims are not only those who are forcibly detained but their families also suffer from these atrocities. This practice is the daily routine of Pakistani state where night raids on houses is observed throughout Balochistan. Civilians are abducted from their houses, work places, colleges and university campuses, hostels, plazas and during travel. No any place is safe for Baloch people, anyone is illegally picked up from anywhere.
Thousands of victims of enforced disappearances are still somewhere in torture cell of Pakistani state, while anyone released, lives in psychological trauma in his/her whole life. In illegal detention, they are subjected to severe mental and physical torture, many detainees have been killed in the custody due to severe torture. Some of them are being illegally executed in fake encounters while the whereabouts of some are still unknown for years. The central leadership of BSO Azad has also been victim of this severe crime including former Chairman Zahid Baloch, Vice Chairman Zakir Majeed, Joint General Secretary Assad Baloch and Spokesperson Shabir Baloch are among them. However political leaders and activists from other Baloch political parties have also been victim including Wahid Kambar Baloch and Dr Deen Muhammad Baloch.
On the day of international victims of enforced disappearances, we remember those who are victims of this crime and some are still in illegal detention of Pakistani state and suffering from severe mental and physical torture. I call upon international community and human rights organisations to take serious action and make Pakistani state accountable on these severe crimes being carried out on Baloch nation.

Pakistan has been trying to fuel religious extremism in Baloch society but Baloch nation has always been aware on these colonial tactics and resisted them in any form.

On the evening of 28 August, 2014 Pakistani state sponsored armed men, commonly known as death squads and religious extremists targeted a religious worship site of Zigri sect (Zikri Community ) in Ziarat e Dann, Awaran. Armed men riding on two motorcycles targeted the Zigrana (Zikir khana) and started firing indiscriminately on the people engaged in ritual worship, seven people were killed while many were injured. Among them was Miyya Bakhtyar, father of former Secretary General of BSO Azad, Martyr Raza Jahangeer. Miyyah Bakhtyar was martyred on the spot along other five persons. One of the attackers was identified as Pakistan’s Military Intelligence officer, Usman. The attackers flew from the area, but the locals saw them entering the nearby Pakistan army camp.
This was somehow an attack on secular Baloch society, an attempt to divide the population and create a civil conflict among the Baloch people, and secondly it was an attempt to harass, threaten and target the families of Baloch political workers. Before this brutal attack, pamphlets were thrown in various areas of Awaran and Kech, threatening the Zigri community. And some other incidents also occurred in those regions where people were targeted in such brutal assaults. These were attempts to counter the Baloch liberation struggle in religious form.
Since Pakistan’s occupation of Balochistan, like other colonial states, has always tried to use colonial tactics on Baloch nation, one of those is religious extremism. Occupying Pakistani state has used the religion card against Baloch people, trying to inflict extremists thoughts to create a chaos among Baloch masses to led them into a civil conflict. Pakistani state sponsored various political religious extremists groups in Mastung, Kech, Gwadar, Awaran, Panjgur, to target the civilians from other sects of Islam. One of the prime target of those extremists has been the Zigri sect of Islam. Their rituals sites, pilgrimages and people have been targeted in brutal assaults. Many people from Awaran, Mashkay and Kech have been targeted. While in Mastung, people from various other sects have also been targeted.
These targets were the attempts to destroy and disrupt the Baloch code of conduct and unity among them. And secondly to counter the Baloch liberation struggle through its colonial tactics. Some organised negative propaganda has also been spread against Baloch leaders to disrupt the support from Baloch masses. But fortunately, the tyrant Pakistani state has been failed in its criminal attempts. Baloch nation has been aware of these colonial tactics through the continuous political education and mobilisation by Baloch political organisations. Baloch society is a secular society, and has been living beside any religious, language, tribal and class differences under one banner of Baloch identity compromising of Balochiat. While Pakistani state has been sponsoring such religious extremists groups to destroy Baloch society, Baloch nation has rejected such tactics and resisted them in any form.
I pay tribute to the martyrs of Awaran incident along with other civilians, who were targeted by Pakistani state sponsored extremists. Their blood was shed in the liberation struggle against tyrant state. The unity of Baloch nation has defeated the tyrant state in its colonial tactics, and this unity among Baloch nation will lead us to an organised Baloch society.
