We are very sad to hear of the death of @SSAFA Wiltshire volunteer caseworker, Brigadier (retd) Rupert van der Horst CBE RM (1941-2026), whose funeral took place this week.
Rupert served in the Falklands Conflict in 1982, as Second-in-Command of the Royal Marines 45 Commando. He is pictured here following the successful attack on the Argentinian positions at the Two Sisters.
The Battle of Two Sisters took place on the 11th and 12th of June 1982. British Forces including Rupert and his fellow Commandos took part in the advance towards the capital Port Stanley.
Rupert recounted his experience vividly, as we marked the 40th anniversary of the Falklands Conflict in 2022 - see https://t.co/evYWzVbUUc
After serving in all three Commandos and completing a total of 10 years with the Special Boat Squadron, Rupert van der Horst served as 2IC 45 Commando in Northern Ireland and the Falklands. He was appointed CBE (Military Division) in 1991.
It was a privilege for us all at SSAFA to have had a national hero like Rupert in our midst.
We send our thoughts and condolences to Rupert's family and friends, and to his fellow SSAFA volunteers in Wiltshire, at this sad time.
@Brookltnwilliw Her mother should have aborted her!
To wear a T shirt and tell the world that, is sick! God will judge her one day! Believe me he will!
