Solar power reached a major milestone in May, generating more electricity in the U.S. than coal for the first time ever. While coal saw a slight rebound from its record-low performance in April, it wasn't enough to keep pace with solar, the nation's fastest-growing renewable energy source.

According to the @ClimateRural, a single acre of solar panels can power 80 homes. The sheer amount of renewable energy created passively can bolster connectivity, even in rural areas. For farmers and rural communities, solar projects can also create new sources of income, support local jobs, and help keep working lands productive for generations to come.
Community solar is coming to New Orleans, bringing meaningful energy savings to families who need it most.
GSREIA is thanking Councilmembers Morrell, Willard, McCarron, Harris, King, Green, and Hughes for their leadership in making community solar a reality. The first project, led by the Sisters of the Holy Family, is expected to reduce utility bills by 20% for 700 families.
Thank them and encourage more efforts like this: https://t.co/HMODFPRftC
According to the @ClimateRural, a single wind turbine crank can power a home for two days. While the output depends on the size of the turbine and wind resources, the sheer amount of renewable energy created passively can bolster connectivity, no matter where you live.
"The same tools that are used to defend the market are used to expand the market,โ says Monika Gerhart, Executive Director at GSREIA, on the latest episode of the Sun Cast podcast.
Market expansion does not happen by accident. We hear from companies looking at Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama because other markets are starting to feel saturated.
The Gulf Coast can look tough from the outside. Policy is local. Relationships matter. The energy economy has deep roots.
But that is exactly why showing up matters.
If you want to expand into a market, be part of building the conditions that allow that market to grow.
That means:
-Investing in the work before the opportunity is obvious.
-Building relationships before you need them.
-Understanding the local energy economy before you sell into it.
-Bringing the right messengers to the table.
-Helping create the policy and market frameworks that make projects possible.
Oil and gas have understood this for a long time. Clean energy has to do the same.
Markets are not just found. They are created.

GSREIA co-founder and president of @solaralt Jeff Cantin and William Albritton of Sidera Energy testified in favor of Louisiana's HR197 in committee on Monday. These representatives of GSREIA member organizations argued the value of energy generation and storage has never been higher; Louisiana should invest in learning the best ways for families and businesses to benefit from virtual power plants. Louisiana's already an energy state, let's use an all-of-the-above approach!
This bill has officially passed the House and is headed to the Senate!
