Think about this next time @GovAbbott offers any praise for Texas public school teachers...
Consider your most stressful day/week as a public school educator, then reflect on the following:
(1) Texas public school employees are tired, burned out, underappreciated, and many work in underresourced schools.
(2) Texas teachers busted their rears and sacrificed their own families by helping our students and communities endure a global pandemic.
THEN...
(3) Texas teachers were used as fodder as the Governor told voters they were "woke" and that they teach kids to "hate America."
AND...
(4) Texas ranks in the bottom 10 states in per-student funding.
(5) Texas' $32.7 billion surplus is the size of the budget of South Carolina.
FINALLY...
(6) Policymakers could not find it within themselves to provide teachers with any raise, nor could they find it within themselves to increase school funding...due to their insistence on tying funding to vouchers.
These people MUST be held accountable. The 2023/24 school year should not start until we: (a) increase teacher pay; and (b) increase school funding.
PERIOD.

I wonder what the ratio of good teachers who become discouraged versus poor teachers who actually improved from our formal teacher evals? Maybe 50% turnover every 5 years has a clue?
Strong leaders embrace their strong outspoken teachers. When they respect them & give them a voice, they have great ideas & even when they challenge the process it’s a sincere desire for the best for their students. Embrace the passion, knowledge & expertise of your staff.
We have a teacher shortage because we have an attrition crisis. Teachers are leaving in droves because they don’t feel supported, valued, & they are simply burnt out. We have to do a better job of taking care of our teachers. Our students are depending on it!
Please let your state representative know to oppose CSHB547. It will be a disaster for our UIL activities. If you want your public school child or grandchild to have a fair chance to compete, ask your representative to oppose this bill.
My dear Aggies,

There’s someone you can fight for; there’s something you can do outside of yourself that makes your community better, makes your school better, makes your family better. Find your cause and you’ll find favor.
One of my friends let me put on their Aggie Ring so I could feel the excitement all of you feel when you put on your Aggie Rings!!!
I'm so happy for all of my Aggies who got their rings this weekend! 💍❤️☺️
Why Does Class Size Matter?
•Teachers have LESS time to support students individually and build relationships
•You have MORE behavior issues
•You have MORE assignments, tests to check (feedback)
•You have LESS opportunities for enrichment activities

Last week I participated in a training where the ‘expert’ shared with teachers how we shouldn’t be lecturing for more than a certain amount of minutes per hour (duhh...eaching 101). The ironic part...he lectured the whole time. #PracticeWhatYouTeach#WalkTheWalk
I'm worried that as more teachers leave and retire this year that rather than change how teachers are treated and supported, more may be added to their plates to make up for the losses. Sadly, not one word from politicians on dealing with teacher attrition and shortages.
@DrBradJohnson I agree. Another way to burn out teachers is to give all special needs students to the same teacher every year because “they are good at it”! This takes extra planning and time to attend IEPs, fill out paperwork, implement accommodations and modifications.
