People often ask how we decide where the next REA project goes. The answer is actually quite simple, we let the data lead us.

Behind every mini-grid, every solar project, and every electrified community is months of planning, mapping, analysis, and asking the right questions. Where is the need greatest? Where can electricity unlock the most economic opportunity? How do we make every Naira of public funding go further?

Those are the conversations that excite me because they remind me that electrification is no longer just about building infrastructure. It is about making smarter decisions.

That is why I was delighted to participate in the "Powering Nigeria's Future: A Nigerian-German Partnership for Universal Energy Access" roundtable and witness the renewal of our collaboration with VIDA. Together, we are strengthening the way REA plans and delivers projects across Nigeria using geospatial intelligence, data analytics, and digital tools that help us reach more communities with greater precision.

I was also delighted to witness the unveiling of the REA Yellow Page by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs. This digital database of female engineers, developers, and women-led companies in the energy sector is more than a directory. It is a platform for visibility, collaboration, mentorship, and opportunity. It sends a simple but powerful message: women belong at every level of the energy value chain.

My sincere appreciation goes to the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hon. Mohammed Abbah Isah, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Habiba Ali of Sosai Renewable Energies, Hannah Kabir of Creeds Renewable Energy Ltd, Simisola Sobowale of AviraLight Collective, the entire GESIC Unit, and every woman contributing to Nigeria's energy transition.

One of the things that gives me the greatest hope for the future of Nigeria's energy sector is the remarkable women who are helping to build it.

Today, I had the pleasure of joining colleagues, partners, and industry leaders to celebrate International Women in Engineering Day, an event hosted by the REA's Gender, Environmental, Social Inclusion and Counselling (GESIC) Unit. It was an opportunity not only to recognize excellence, but also to reflect on the kind of institution and industry we are working to build.

When we inaugurated the GESIC Unit last year, our vision was to create a workplace where everyone, regardless of gender, physical ability, or background, has the opportunity to contribute, grow, and thrive. I am proud of the progress we have made, but even more encouraged by the journey ahead. Across the Agency, we are seeing a new generation of professionals, particularly young women, stepping forward with the expertise, confidence, and leadership our sector needs.
