I'm just back from Egmond aan den Hoef, where I took part in a documentary about #Descartes. I was there to discuss the significance his relationship with Dutch maid, Helena Jans. My first novel 'The Words in My Hand' is built around the facts that exist in the historical record>

I finished reading this on holiday today and was so sad it had to end. What a wonderful cast of characters— and such great stories all bound together by the one summer. ♥️ Beautiful prose.

On Europe day: Russia has become a permanent war society, wrapping itself in the regalia of the CCCP. Even as it attempts to project strength it exhibits extraordinary fragility. War is the only logical place for its nationalism to end up. Putin's war on Ukraine must be defeated.
I was at King's Lynn Fiction Festival this week: a rare chance to meet other writers & explore how our work intersects. The chance to draw across very different works to find meaning is one of the things I value most about these events. It's endlessly re-energising & rewarding.
