On a lighter note from my normal angry output, I’m going to Norway soon in anticipation of which I bought a guidebook. It was written in 1884 and this one published in 1892 and is very charming. Read the ‘Hints to Tourists’ which are amusing and I perhaps still pertinent. I’d guess the weather’s the same. I know the book was used in 1894 because its owner sketched Stavanger on the back of the foldout map insert. The book’s also full of dried flowers and leaves which I can only assume were collected on the same journey, making them 132 years old.

A new report by the NRC-led West Bank Protection Consortium documents the use of sexualised violence by Israeli settlers to coerce Palestinian communities in the West Bank.
These acts are not isolated. They form part of a broader pattern of intimidation and abuse that is driving Palestinians from their homes.
It reflects a coercive environment that deliberately fractures families and undermine the viability of Palestinian communities.
Israel is obligated under law to prevent all such abhorrent violence against Palestinian communities and ensure accountability for perpetrators.
The US and UN member states cannot ignore this.
The EU and its Member States should use the full range of their legal and diplomatic tools, including restrictive measures and accountability pathways, to address these violations:
