5 year old German Shepherd Dog in Louisiana. My Dad trains me & sez I'm a good boy. I have 2 Springer sisters & a GSD big brother. No ๐ซ politics/DM.
@GsdTplo Another thing is that I and most trainers rarely actually apply a correction with the collar. Instead, we let the dog make their own correction. Get too far ahead and out of slack on the leash, they correct themselves.
@GsdTplo I think that research gets cherry-picked to support a position on both sides of the issue. I just know that thousands of the finest trainers around the world use a prong collar during their training and my personal experience supports it. Thanks for a civil discussion.
@GsdTplo Except the research you posted earlier from the SPCA is from an organization that is bent on making private pet ownership illegal. I agree that using a prong collar takes training, but it's not the evil bogeyman that it's made out to be.

@GsdTplo No, because a proper on&off correction with one would pull the child over. It would be the fall, not the prongs that hurt the child. However, my Dad uses it on himself when he teaches classes.
@GsdTplo Watch this video. No dogs were harmed but it's a quick demo that dispels the idea what prong collars are cruel. Like any tool it can be abused, but used properly is a powerful training tool.

@GsdTplo @lisaloyal1 My Dad teaches obedience classes and harnesses are garbage. They actually encourage pulling because it distributes the weight evenly. That is why it is used in things where pulling is encouraged like tracking, scent work, cart & weight pulling.
Haven't been posting much lately, but Dad's been dealing with some health issues. He's good now and we're back training for our next obedience trial in April. I'm just glad to have my Dad back! #dogsoftwitter
Dad & I are in Ocala, FL for the GSD Club of America's National show this week & I was extra good! We placed 1st all 3 days in both Novice B & Preferred Novice, & I was the High in Trial for the regular and preferred classes! Dad is very proud of me! #dogsoftwitter
Going to Ocala for the GSD Club of America's Nationals to show in obedience this week. Dad and I get to spend the whole week together! Dad is a little nervous about the big stage next week, but I told him I've got this! #dogsoftwitter
