Virginia is banning the sale, purchase, and transfer of AR-15s and other so-called “assault firearms” on July 1st.
So what did Virginians do?
They bought a record number of them.
After Governor Spanberger signed SB 749, Virginia firearm background checks more than doubled compared to the same month last year — and the state ranked second in the entire country for rifle and shotgun-related checks, behind only Texas.
The politicians said they were going to get these rifles “off the streets.”
Virginians said, “Bet.”
That’s the part everybody is laughing about. But the bigger issue is what comes next.
Because this ban lets people keep what they already own — for now.
And that phrase matters.
Sales ban today. Registry tomorrow. Confiscation talk later. That’s how these things move: one “reasonable step” at a time.
Virginia tried to ban America’s most popular rifle, prosecutors are already refusing to enforce it, and the people responded the most American way possible — by clearing the shelves before the window closes.

Virginia passed a new gun ban — and now some of the very prosecutors expected to enforce it are saying no.
The law makes it a misdemeanor to buy, sell, transfer, import, or manufacture certain “assault firearms,” punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
That means a rifle that was legal on June 30th became a crime on July 1st because politicians moved a line on paper.
But at least five Virginia prosecutors have already said they will not enforce the ban, arguing that it violates the Second Amendment.
And here’s the poetic part: Virginia Democrats helped protect prosecutorial discretion years ago, meaning the governor and attorney general can complain all they want — but they can’t force those prosecutors to bring charges.
They built the off-switch. Now it’s being used on their own gun ban.
This is a win, but it’s not the end. The law is still on the books statewide, and the real fight is in court.
With more than 20 million AR-15s in America and the rifle clearly in common use, this is exactly the kind of case the Supreme Court needs to stop ducking.
Virginia tried to criminalize law-abiding gun owners. Their own prosecutors said no.

Ironic how the Left hypocritical when it comes to the 2nd amendment.
A citizen strapping on an AR15 to oppose ICE in MN is perfectly acceptable but they are perfectly content to make millions of Virginians felons overnight because no one should have semi automatic rifles that look a certain way.
What should be criminalized is politicians passing bills that so blatantly violate civil rights.

🚨 URGENT 🚨
Congressional Democrats have reintroduced H.R. 7166, a bill that would effectively end online ammunition sales nationwide.
This isn’t about “common sense.”
It’s about making lawful gun ownership harder.
What this bill would do ⬇️
▪️ Force face-to-face ID checks for online ammo purchases
▪️ Add new licensing rules for ammo sellers
▪️ Require reporting to law enforcement for normal “bulk” purchases
▪️ Hit rural Americans, working families, seniors, and disabled citizens hardest
Ammo is necessary to exercise the Second Amendment.
Making it harder to buy doesn’t stop criminals — it targets law-abiding Americans.
This is not public safety.
It’s government overreach disguised as convenience regulation.
This year will be the fifth year of our range day. From the VIP day to the public day with thousands of patrons, this showcases the beauty of America and the importance of the Second Amendment, which unites all people.
Americans of every race come together to celebrate the most important right we have because it protects all others. It’s what those who seek to limit this right don’t understand: we aren’t the ones breaking the law; we aren’t the criminals. Gun owners are Asian, Black, Hispanic, White, men, and women—everyday people who you work with, who serve our communities, who wear uniforms to fight distant wars.
Gun bans don’t do anything but take away rights from those who follow the law, seek training, and use firearms responsibly, while criminals ignore them entirely.
Our founders have been staunch supporters of @GunOwners and their no-compromise stance on the Second Amendment since the early days of our sister company @GunsOutTV. Both have even given back to the organization that has given them so much. As GOA continues to fight, particularly its latest battle in Virginia, we want to STRONGLY encourage you to support GOA by going to https://t.co/wpBnEWnbsb.

Gun rights and racial justice intersect. Some prioritize racial justice...until the Second Amendment enters the chat. Suddenly, silence. Hypocrisy alert! @MorosKostas@2AFDN#GunRights#RacialJustice
Universal background checks got killed in Virginia! Tennessee's now a constitutional carry state. Plus, GOA members can get out-of-state permits in NY & CA. #2A#GunRights
With their recent victories across the state, Democrats of Virginia are already targeting the second amendment.
•A new bill would require a license to purchase any firearm.
•It’s unclear whether the license would apply differently to pistols vs. rifles.
•With full legislative control and a Democratic governor incoming, this could become law quickly.
•Another proposed bill would let individuals sue any business that makes or sells firearms, optics, slings, and related gear.
•These moves could reshape gun ownership and the firearms industry in the state.
