In 2023, the Modi government demolished the homes of hundreds of families living in Bela Estate on the banks of the Yamuna.

In 2026, Gyanesh Kumar Gupta’s SIR has now wiped 727 of the 728 voters in Bela Estate off the draft electoral roll.

First, their homes were demolished. Now, their right to vote is being taken away.

And, as we have seen in West Bengal, people who have been removed from the rolls during the SIR risk losing welfare benefits.

This is not merely about disenfranchising people. It is a conspiracy to strip vulnerable citizens of their political voice - and remove their access to the basic entitlements of citizenship.

The BJP is trampling on the rights of crores of Indians - and the ECI is complicit. Partners in crime.
