The biggest waste of potential in Nu!Trek is that a human character never said “Vulcans don’t lie” in front of Michael Burnham, who would laugh and say “yes they fucking do!!!!”
*Personally* it annoys me when people say Data is autistic. Not just because of the robot comparison, but also because Data is often infantilized and autistic people are treated like dumb babies all the time.
Now autistic Worf? That’s representation I can get behind.
Remember in the original series when Starfleet straight up invaded the Gorn’s territory and Kirk and Bones went “oh shit maybe we WERE wrong”
(Of course that was before the Gorn were turned into generic horror movie monsters but I digress)
Modern Star Trek be like:
“Why are you attacking the good and noble Federation?”
“Actually you people inflicted horrors on my people so our anger is justified.”
“Hmm. But you retaliated? So actually you are the bad guy here?”
@steve_shives's video about Section 31 made me think about how the idea of Section 31 doesn't even feel horrifying today since we're all so used to be spied on. They're basically Space Homeland Security. DS9 was pre-9/11 and it shows.
