Addis Ababa’s Riverside Development is far more than a riverbank beautification project. From the Entoto to Peacock corridor to the Entoto–Kebena stretch, this is a large-scale urban transformation that extends up to 50 meters beyond the rivers, creating green corridors, public gathering spaces, walkable areas, recreation zones, and commercial spaces that are reshaping the city itself.

What makes the project especially significant is its broader economic and social impact. Beyond improving the appearance and function of the riversides, it has created jobs for many people across construction, engineering, landscaping, logistics, and related sectors, while also generating opportunities for local contractors, suppliers, and businesses. The fact that so much of the work is being designed and delivered locally highlights the growing capacity of Ethiopian expertise in urban development and infrastructure.

The sustainability aspect is equally important. Once dumping grounds for toxic waste and flood hazards affecting communities along the riverbanks, these areas are now being transformed into greener, healthier, and more liveable urban spaces. At the same time, the integration of commercial and public spaces demonstrates how environmental restoration and economic growth can work together rather than compete with one another.

This is a long-term investment in the future of Addis Ababa as a greener, more connected, economically vibrant, and people-centered city.

This morning, I visited the Gobeze Solar Cell manufacturing plant located in the Huajian Special Economic Zone in Addis Ababa. The factory was established based on an agreement signed during the 2025 Invest in Ethiopia Forum, with an initial phase investment of 100 million dollars.

With effective support and close follow-up, the “Gobeze Solar Cell” manufacturing plant became operational in just six months. It is equipped with modern machinery and technology. The factory has also created job opportunities for many citizens. In its first phase, the factory has an annual production capacity of 2 gigawatts, contributing additional capacity toward realizing Ethiopia’s national vision of fully meeting its energy demand through renewable sources.

In addition, we also visited a shoe manufacturing factory and a substation located within the industrial park.

ታላቋ ኢትዮጵያ አፍሪካውያንን ነፃ አ��ጥታለች ቢባል ማጋነን አይሆንም። በባርነት ስር ላሉ ጥቁር ህዝቦች የገንዘብና የመሳሪያ ድጋፍ ከማድረግ ባለፈ ጣሊያንን መቀመጫውን ገርፋ ያባረረችው ነፃዋ ሐገራችን ለጥቁር ህዝብ ሁሉ በጨለማ ውስጥ የምትታይ የነፃነት ብርሃን ጭላንጭል ሆና ኖራለች።

ኢትዮጵያ የአፍሪካ አንድነት ድርጅትን ማቋቋሟ ወይም ደቡብ አፍሪካን ከአፓርታይድ፣ ዙምባቤን ከሮዴዢያ Rhodesia) ስርአት ወዘተ ለማላቀቅ በከፈለችው ዋጋ ብቻ ታሪኳ አያበቃም። በአፍሪካ ለመጀመሪያ ግዜ የነጭን አምባገነናዊነት ይታ���ል ለነበረው ኔልሰን ማንዴላ ዜግነት በመስጠትም የመጀመሪያዋ ሐገር ነች።

ዛሬ የጥቁሮች የነፃነት symbol ሆኖ የሚታየው ኔልሰን ማንዴላ ያለ ኢትዮጵያ ምንም ነበር። አለም ፊቷን በደቡብ አፍሪካ ጥቁሮች ላይ ስታዞር፣ ምድር ስትከፋባቸው፣ በየመንገዱ ሲገደሉ፣ እንደባሪያ ሲረገጡ፣ በውሻ ሲበሉ፣ የነፃነት አርማዋ ኢትዮጵያ ጥቁር ልጇን ከደቡብ አፍሪካ አምጥታ፣ ሐገሩ ፊት በነሳችው ግዜ ክቡር የሆነውን የኢትዮጵያ ፓስፖርት ሰጥታ፣ አሰልጥናና አስታጥቃ ወደሐገሩ ልካዋለች።

ለዚህ ውለታችን የደቡብ አፍሪካ ዜጎች ዝቅ ብለው እጅ ሊነሱን ሲገባ ከሐገራችን ውጡ ብለው ተሰለፉብን። በየሜዳው ተኮሱብን። ውለታችን በጥይት ተከፈለን።

የኢትዮጵያ ኤምባሲም ሆነ ሁሉም ኢትዮጵያዊ ይሄንን ታሪክ ለደቡብ አፍሪካውያኑ ሊያስታውሳቸው ይገባል። እኛ ነፃነትን ያጎናፀፍናቸው የዘመናት ባለውለታቸው እንጂ ጠላት አይደለንም።
