JUNE 12 MILITARY HEROES HONOURED BY PRESIDENT TINUBU

The FG through President Tinubu his Democracy Day speech has announced honours for 17 retired military officers he described as “soldier-democrats of the June 12 struggle”. They include men who, from within the armed forces, either resisted the military annulment of June 12 or suffered professional and personal consequences for standing on the side of democracy.

Troops Foil Terrorists’ Advance, Recover Motorcycle in Yobe

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have thwarted an attempted approach by suspected terrorists within their area of responsibility in Yobe State and recovered a motorcycle during a follow-up operation.

Military sources disclosed that the troops detected the movement of suspected terrorists towards a military location on June 9 and immediately responded with a fire mission to neutralise the threat and deny the insurgents freedom of action.

According to the sources, the troops maintained surveillance on the area before conducting an exploitation operation on Tuesday morning.

The troops observed the movement of suspected terrorists towards a military position and responded appropriately to prevent any attack on the location.

“During a subsequent exploitation operation, two terrorist corpses and a motorcycle were discovered in the general area,” the source said.

The sources noted that an assessment of the bodies indicated signs of decomposition, suggesting that the terrorists may have been neutralised during an earlier encounter with troops operating around Buni Yadi.

The area was thoroughly searched, but no additional items were recovered.

Military authorities said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to sustain pressure on terrorist elements and prevent them from regrouping within the North-East theatre of operations.

They added that troops remained vigilant and committed to protecting communities and military installations across the region.

According to the authorities, the overall security situation within the theatre remains relatively calm but unpredictable, requiring continuous surveillance and proactive operations.

They also expressed satisfaction with the morale and fighting efficiency of troops engaged in ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

The military reassured residents of its determination to sustain offensive operations against terrorist groups and maintain security across the North-East.

SECURITY FORCES UNCOVER INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA/EASTERN SECURITY NETWORK ARMS CACHE IN ENUGU

Troops of 82 Division Garrison operating under Sector 1, Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Enugu State Command, have achieved a significant operational success in the ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY II in an effort to consolidate the peace building process in the South East.

On 9 June 2026, acting on credible intelligence derived from previously arrested suspects affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), security forces conducted a precision follow-up operation in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area. Troops uncovered a clandestine arms hideout concealed within a zinc structure disguised as a piggery. A thorough exploitation of the site led to the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition. These include General Purpose Machine Guns, RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, tear gas gun with cartridges, AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

All recovered items and arrested suspects have been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and appropriate legal action.

This intelligence-driven operation underscores the effective interagency collaboration in the region, resulting in proactive measures to counter threats to national unity and public safety. It also reflects the Operation UDO KA’s unwavering commitment to sustaining offensive actions against criminal and terrorist networks that undermine peace in the region.
