1. China’s feline torturing syndicates are large and rampant. The majority of the members are adolescent and young men, however there is also a handful of women involved. In fact, there was a case 20 years ago where a young woman trampled a cat with her high heels, crushing it to death. She also committed similar acts on other small animals such as rabbits and hamsters, broadcasting her actions on video streams which targeted audiences with foot fetish and addiction towards animal torturing etc. Unfortunately, there are plenty of viewers interested in such videos. A number of cat-torturing groups began to surface. One of the more prominent and earlier ones was led by “Shu Ke”. There is also a recent one led by someone who calls himself the “Cat Addiction Therapist”. China has several people involved with the torturing of cats. This shady industry chain is also stubbornly resilient. The Cat Addiction Therapist has been recruiting a number of underaged boys to join his syndicate. The majority of this syndicate’s members are male with very few female members. 2. China’s anti-animal cruelty volunteers (“AAC volunteers”) face significant headwinds. We do not have any external funding sources nor other support. Currently, China does not have any animal cruelty laws; as a result, animal abusers go unpunished for their actions. To exacerbate this, mass circulation of anti-animal cruelty news/updates are often frowned upon by the media and government; demonstrations are also strictly off limits. Female AAC volunteers are often targeted by the animal abusers. The culprits would often Photoshop the female AAC members’ faces onto pornographic pictures, then send these photos to their families and friends. Other harassments include sending the animal corpses to their home address, telephone threats and so forth. Unfortunately, there is very little the police could (or would) do. A number of AAC members have also experienced psychological issues due to the volume of animal torture videos/pictures they have seen. Unfortunately, these have taken a toll on their health and daily lives. Many of them have had to resort to psychological counselling and in certain cases, take anti-depressants. Animal abusers have even specifically targeted underage volunteers. Unfortunately, some of these teenagers could not handle the abuse and pressure, thereby took their own lives. 3. Animal abusers often become addicted to the excitement of killing an animal. One abuser once said, “I never knew I could get this high by torturing cats! It’s even better than drugs, it’s so addictive!” Another example would be Wang Chao-Yi, who goes by the name of “猫瘾治疗师” or loosely translated to “Cat Addiction Therapist” on Telegram. He was an ICBC Bank employee in Nanning who enjoys mother cats as well as pregnant cats. When he kills the cats, he screams in pleasure and his sounds are often described as someone having an orgasm. Some animal abusers “substitute” cats for children and women, as they gain excitement from hearing the cats’ squeals, which sound similar to women/children crying for help. 4. One of our undercovers noted that many of these animal abusers also carry signs of paedophilia. Within their internal chat groups, they would often share videos of child pornography. The sound of children crying is often very similar to those of cats squealing. We believe many of these animal abusers could also be (or potentially be) paedophiles and gain excitement from abusing children and women. For example, Wang Chao-Yi once yelled, “The ones I wish to torture most are children and pregnant women” and “I really wish I could torture a baby, but I can’t find a baby to torture!” Someone also added that, “Killing cats is nothing, I want to kill a person!” From the above, we can see how sickening their minds are; they are killing cats, as the price of killing someone is too high.
