This used to be Little Lyntus an ancient woodland in Staffordshire. It had stood for 400 years, part of our beautiful and vital nature.
So it was chopped down for HS2 …. Which was then cancelled!
Don’t lecture me about net zero & the environment when we are destroying the irreplaceable for profit 🔥
Really sad news. The cancellation follows the BBC's announcement that a number of programmes would be dropped as part of its ‘evolving commissioning strategy’
First it was Autumnwatch axed by the @BBC
Now Winterwatch is being axed too... 😡
How long before the flagship @BBCSpringwatch goes the same way? 😒
These shows are educational, fun and extremely popular.... but who needs nature anyway eh?
Sickening decision... 😔😡
@DanNeidle What's the population as % of workforce for each sample? And are they equivalent purchasing power, ,e.g. is the older sample £150k vs today's £200k? Not sure of the statistical significance of what's likely a small %. Likely means my age group are useless at negotiating though
The hidden cost of the spring silage cut: 🚜💔 Intensive late-spring cutting destroys thousands of nesting birds like Skylarks.
Instead of turning a blind eye, simple changes like thermal imaging and wildlife-safe cutting patterns can save generations. 🐦
The photograph the EA are using above is of the Stapleford Tawney illegal waste site, next to the River Roding near Epping. They were informed about this site in February 2025, but did absolutely nothing and allowed illegal waste dumping to continue for a whole year. It was only in February 2026, when I organised a petition & got the media down to the site that they even bothered to close off the entrance & get a legal closure order.
So the EA apparently want members of the public to report serious waste crime so they can sit there & do naff all about it? Even now, they aren’t doing any testing to see if the site is contaminating ground water & the River Roding. They have also given no commitment to clearing up the site whatsoever. Will the EA agree to remove all of this rubbish that they allowed to be dumped on this site next to our river, or do they just plan to leave it there forever to rot?
I'm fuming to read this! 🤬
Year in and year out this kind of crap happens in the summer, when most birds are already breeding, not just with Swifts, but with all birds! 😒
Birds and their nests are protected by law, but the law is clearly inadequate and is riddled with loopholes that councils, builders, farmers... anyone really, can exploit. 😡
Yet still some wonder why the UK is the most nature depleted place on earth...

In one of the most significant single-day killing events in the history of the Faroe Islands’ dolphin hunts, more than 700 Atlantic white-sided dolphins were driven ashore and killed on Wednesday across three separate drives – surpassing two-thirds of the approximately 1,000 marine mammals killed across the entirety of last year.
The hunts, known locally as the grind, took place at multiple locations across the archipelago, which sits roughly 200 miles north of Scotland. Hundreds of dolphins were herded towards the shoreline before being killed using hooks and long knives in scenes that quickly drew international condemnation from conservation groups.
The day’s events were compounded by what participants themselves acknowledged was a critical shortage of spinal lances – equipment that is legally mandatory for the killing of dolphins in the islands. In their absence, multiple animals were killed using knives alone.
Reports from observers on the ground have described scenes of ‘prolonged suffering’ in which dolphins were crushed against rocks, driven over by vessels, and struck by boat propellers – the apparent consequence of both the equipment shortage and an insufficient number of trained participants.
A total of 706 dolphins were killed across the three hunts. The largest single drive took place in Tórshavn, the islands’ capital, where 406 animals were killed.
Angry doesn’t even begin to cover it..

This is what entitlement looks like! 🤬
There are nesting waterbirds on this pond on Hampstead Heath... there are also big 'No Swimming' signs, all being totally ignored! 🤬
Pure selfishness... 😒🤬🤬

@gridcustomersuk@nationalgriduk very poor behaviour. This destruction must be avoidable. Shame on you destroying valuable habitat in nesting season when it is illegal.
@SheffCouncil why you spraying Sheffield streets with pesticides? Im HORRIFIED to see GLYPHOSATE sprayed on our streets by a Council worker. Cities across UK and Europe have banned it. It kills wildlife, is a health risk, cats and dogs can get very sick BAN IT NOW! @_OliviaBlake
This is a disgrace, a total waste of your council tax income @SheffCouncil, spraying poison in residential streets on weeds that are causing no major issue at all, apart from providing food and shelter for small creatures... disgusting! 😡
Well done Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council @RMBCPress for putting wildlife first and mowing verges second! Can we please have more of this @SheffCouncil in Sheffield and across ALL Councils in UK @LGAcomms We need to let our verges grow if we want our bees to recover!
Watch as @nationalgriduk chomps through a hedge. In nesting season. Despite its DCO stating “”In accordance with good practice measure B02, vegetation with the potential to support breeding birds will be programmed to be removed outside of breeding bird season (March to August inclusive) where practicable”. So why was it not practicable not to do it in this instance? The ecologist found nothing (what a surprise) but there is no way a hedge like this does not have nesting birds.
(This is Bramford to Twinstead, not Norwich to Tilbury)
@PylonsEAnglia
Good grief, this horrendous: a large warehousing scheme which would uproot more than 10,000 trees is set to get approval. The three new warehouses in Carrington, Trafford, would destroy habitats for birds, bats, hedgehogs and amphibians.

4. No one has fought against the entire review, just the recommendations based on misinformation which would harm our protected spaces, species and habitats. https://t.co/tbdXZobrCx
