On August 8, 1990, at approximately 2:00 p.m., landscapers working at a home on Chateau Drive in Melville discovered the bloodied, handcuffed remains of an unidentified man. Upon arrival, law enforcement and Medical Examiners were able to determine the victim was likely a light-skinned Hispanic male, about 25–35 years old, standing approximately 5’6″ tall. He was wearing an orange shirt (with a picture of two men playing volleyball and the words “Off Shore of C.A.” on the front of said shirt) and black designer jeans, white socks, and black loafer-style shoes.

The man had been shot five times—in the back, face, head (behind his left ear), and right shoulder. A handcuff was locked to the victim’s left wrist, while the other cuff was open and unattached.

In 2025, the Suffolk County Cold Case Task Force worked with SCPD forensic artist Danielle Gruttadaurio to create an updated sketch showing what the victim may have looked like just prior to his death.

The victim remains unidentified and is known only as “Melville John Doe.” If you have any information about this case or the  victim’s identity, please email [email protected] or call [phone].

🚨 KENTUCKY MAN ACCUSED OF STABBING, DISMEMBERING & MUTILATING UNHOUSED MAN — WANTED TO “HUNT HOMELESS PEOPLE”

THE SUSPECT

Michael Hristov, 21.

THE VICTIM

Michael Howard, an unhoused man. He was stabbed, dismembered, and had satanic symbols carved into his body. His genitals and several toes were removed. He was found nude in a homeless encampment in Louisville, Kentucky.

WHAT HAPPENED

Howard was killed on December 24, 2025. His body was discovered two days later. Hristov is also linked to the nonfatal stabbing of another unhoused man on Christmas Day 2025.

Evidence against Hristov includes surveillance footage, his scooter, a backpack containing the victim’s DNA, a Reddit post made from his IP address about a serial killer, and an iCloud photo of a severed toe.

THE MOTIVE / STATEMENTS

Hristov had expressed a desire to “hunt homeless people,” showed a fascination with serial killers, and idolized mass shooters. He also allegedly tortured animals.

AFTERMATH

Hristov was indicted on May 13, 2026, for murder, abuse of a corpse, and assault. The next day, during a SWAT standoff, he called 911 saying he was armed and wanted officers to shoot him. He was later killed in an officer-involved shooting after refusing to drop his weapon.

The investigation into possible additional victims is ongoing.

Janice is NOT a runaway. She got along well with her father, a New York City fire department lieutenant, and her mother, a station clerk at University Hospital at Stony Brook. And only hours before she would leave her home, she learned that she had been hired as a waitress at a local restaurant.
