The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Haemophilia and Contaminated Blood is a cross party group of MPs and peers with an interest in bleeding disorders.
The APPG welcomes today's report on compensation from the @bloodinquiry. Sir Brian Langstaff's report concludes that wrongs were done and recommends that a compensation scheme be set up now. The Government must act quickly to implement these recommendations.
✍️@HaemoAPPG has written to the Prime Minister to urgently clarify what will happen to support & compensation for those infected and affected by the contaminated blood scandal.
👉The General Election must not cause further delay to essential compensation payments ⬇️
Now that was a memorable meeting
A GE being called whilst surrounded by MPs @DianaJohnsonMP@Dr_PhilippaW@ChrisStephens@IanLaveryMP etc
Thanks to all those who were able to attend the APPG for Haemophilia and Contaminated Blood as well as my fantastic colleagues @HaemoSocUK
What impact will a general election have on compensation payments for people infected and affected by contaminated blood products? This is our understanding of the current situation. https://t.co/QHvLw48jlG
The Victims & Prisoners Bill must be included in the wash-up or else Infected Blood Scandal victims will have been kicked whilst down once again. @RishiSunak@JohnGlenUK
The findings of the report are a damning indictment on those in power. Those who who so many trusted and were let down in the most devastating way.

I welcome this landmark @bloodinquiry report. It shows how the biggest treatment disaster in NHS history became a huge scandal due to a 40 year cover-up. An apology will only be meaningful if action follows, first on compensation and then on how the state treats our citizens.
On Monday, the Infected @bloodinquiry’s final report will be published.
For those who have campaigned decades for justice, it will be a momentous and emotional day.
Today I asked the Government whether there will be time for MPs to debate the report findings ⬇
But why didn’t you do this in April 23 when Sir Brian Langstaff @bloodinquiry made his final recommendations on compensation & told the Government to start paying by the end of 23 . Why did it take the Government being defeated in @HouseofCommons in December to force you to act?
The government has accepted a three-month time frame for setting up a compensation scheme and will begin recruiting an independent chair for a new compensation authority immediately, it announced this evening in the House of Lords.

🔎Great to see 5 MPs from 4 different parties presenting petitions on the infected blood scandal today.
🤝MPs are united: justice delayed is justice denied.
⏰391 days since Sir Brian Langstaff’s final recommendations on compensation, there is no excuse for further delays.
Last week, I requested an urgent meeting with @JohnGlenUK to discuss my concerns about:
👉The failure to mention in the Budget compensation for those infected & affected by contaminated blood.
👉The lack of transparency around the Govt's expert group.
This was his response ⬇
It's been two weeks since our mass lobby at Parliament - demanding immediate compensation for those infected and affected by contaminated blood. It's now almost a year since the Inquiry's recommendations and the government still won't to commit to paying full compensation.
Today I will be presenting a petition in Parliament that:
👉 Declares those infected and affected by the contaminated blood scandal have waited far too long for redress.
👉 Urges the Government to implement Sir Brian Langstaff’s recommendations without delay.
118 MPs from 10 political parties have written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer @jeremy_hunt ahead of next week's Budget Statement asking for @hmtreasury to allocate the funds needed to implement the April 2023 final @bloodinquiry recommendations on infected blood compensation.
📌 Yesterday I chaired the @HaemoAPPG meeting.
💬 We are, again, disappointed by the Government’s unnecessary delays to compensation.
👉 And ready to continue the fight for justice.
