Over the past day, at least nine people were killed and 51 others were injured as a result of Russian attacks. In the Kyiv region, three people, including a child, were killed, while three others, including a child, were injured. In Kyiv, rescuers recovered the body of a person killed in the attack while clearing its aftermath. Fires were also reported, including at a non-residential site and at fuel storage tanks. In the Kharkiv region, two people were killed and eight others were injured, including as a result of attacks on Izium, the Velykyi Burluk community, Vilkhivka, and the explosion of an unidentified device in the Derhachi community. In the Kherson region, two people were killed and 24 others were injured, including a child. In the Donetsk region, one person was killed and 15 others were injured. Residential buildings, a church, a shop, a hair salon, a petrol station, school buses, agricultural machinery, vehicles, and other civilian objects were damaged.

Justice Patel: If an AI system assists in legal research or case triage, who audits that system?

If a matter is heard virtually, how do we preserve the solemnity and gravity that a courtroom setting confers upon proceedings, so that justice is not merely done but felt by every litigant?

If predictive analytics inform how cases are prioritised, what prevents that prioritisation from quietly favouring the well-resourced litigant who can navigate the system over the unrepresented litigant who cannot?

I would suggest that integrity in the coming decades will not be secured through resistance to change, but through the governance of change.

We need clear judicial and professional standards for the use of technology in our courts standards developed by the judiciary itself, not imposed upon it from outside, and not left to evolve merely by accident.

This is where collaboration across jurisdictions, shared learning, judicial networks and alliances have an important role to play developing shared standards of practice so that innovation in dispute resolution, whether in courts, arbitration or mediation, does not outpace the ethical scaffolding designed to support it.

Integrity, I would add, is also a discipline of humility.
