Calling us Houthis is like calling the Iranian people Khomeinis. Wouldn't it be better to call us Yemenis instead of Houthis?

I wish that were the case, because "Houthi" is the title of the leader of the Yemeni revolution, Sayyid Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, while the entire population participated in the September 21, 2014 revolution. Therefore, you should call us by our true name: Yemenis or Ansar Allah (Supporters of God).

🚨🇾🇪 The Houthis have reportedly taken Perim Island, handing them the entire Yemeni side of Bab al-Mandeb

Mayun, as Yemenis call it, sits at the narrowest point of the strait, 12 miles from Africa.

With Murad village alongside it, the Houthis would now reportedly hold every mile of Yemen's west coast.

CNN stood on that island this week with the government garrison that was supposed to keep it.

What the Yemeni official there said now reads as a forecast. If the Houthis took Perim, they would stop needing long-range missiles and simply mine the strait, the way Iran mined Hormuz.

His vice president warned it would take a massive international force and multiple navies to dig them out.

Washington has 20 warships locked on Hormuz and nothing spare.

Both of the world's oil chokepoints are now held by Tehran and its closest ally.
