Yesterday’s hail storm and flash flooding created some dangerous conditions across our city.

For one woman, a routine drive to work quickly turned into an emergency when she unknowingly drove into floodwaters near 6th and Sable.

Thankfully we were nearby, ready to help.

Officers safely rescued the driver, ensured she was unharmed, and even gave her a ride home.

Moments like these are a reminder that floodwaters can be unpredictable and dangerous. If you encounter water covering a roadway, turn around and find an alternate route.

Up to Baseball sized hail yet again the Northern Plains! Storms are likely across the Dakotas and Nebraska this afternoon as the complex that gave the Dakotas and Wyoming several hail reports yesterday shifts slowly to the east. Storms will remain scattered, but the strongest storms hold a risk for large hail, strong gusts and a tornado or two.

Don't see a hail risk? Neither did Texas, yet 51 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued and 12 reports of hail (some just outside of Dallas and Houston).

These storms grounded flights at DFW and produced ping pong ball-sized hail south of Dallas. This wasn't a widespread, high-impact severe weather event, but it's a reminder that severe weather can develop outside of highlighted risk areas. Storm outlooks identify where severe weather is most likely, not the only places it can happen.

June started with a bang! Check out this hailstorm that took aim on downtown Denver, June 1st, 2026. Hail hit over 72,000 structures with the largest stone being 1.75” (the size of a golfball)!
