I always tell people to block the noise when it comes to Comrades marathon. Your fitness will determine your performance. They say your first 30km of the up run will determine your last 30km. In the first half, I was in a 7:30 bus. The average pace was 5:20. That is not a conservative pace at all. I finished the race with the same average pace. Not every advice will work for you. Just prepare yourself accordingly.
