@The_Japan_News The only effect this really had on Hokkaido (and much of the Tōhoku region) was that millions of people thought they were about to die because of the erroneous early warning message of a 9.9 mega-quake that made it look like an asteroid just hit.
It is, I’m being a bit humorous, and on a number pad 6 is right next to 9. I also considered going the route where they tried upgrading their early warning systems with AI: “You’re right to push back, that wasn’t really a 9.9 earthquake, should I resend the notification again to cancel it?”
@RetroMemoriesHQ This was pretty standard back in the day if you had a computer… and back in those days, the bugs and configuration were a nightmare… the only lucky part is if you happened to be born into a family/area where computer ownership was common in the 90s.
Last night of the Yasukuni Shrine Mitama Festival (靖国神社の御霊祭). First time visiting the shrine and I absolutely loved it. I particularly like Meiji Era and WWII history, so I ended up buying a lot of memorabilia at the museum gift shop.
Spent the day exploring some places in Nikko. Staying at one of the inns alone the Kinugawa. Remembered the scenes from some old 廃墟 videos I used to watch and went out to find the spot (I love abandoned buildings). Found it along with a suspension bridge that was scarier than I thought… probably because I was surrounded by dilapidated buildings 😅
@mrjeffu I don’t get it, the era of actual 回転寿司 is over, anyone who has been to sushiro, hamasushi, or the like can see this video is a dude putting something on his own sushi. These days, the belt is just for sushi you order, it doesn’t go to anyone else.
I think the TOS argument is weird, besides the fact almost no one actually reads them, you’re forced to agree to it in any case. Most people are going to agree even if they disagree… and this benefits the companies themselves, because if people didn’t do this, most of these companies would either be out out of business from the start, or wouldn’t have said something so ridiculous in the TOS in the first place.
Maybe not completely related, but I remember the transition from VHS to DVD and everyone said how great it was because DVDs would make everything cheaper because they cost less to make. The opposite happened, prices went up despite the medium being cheaper to produce. History is repeating itself, and now it’s even worse because you’re paying more for literally no physical media and it can be taken away from you at any moment.
Just to clear confusion, I see a lot of people saying "oh Sony is just trying to save money by cutting physical releases".
No they are not, they are actually willing to cut down a good chunk of income to create full market control.
If physical games were a loss leader there would have been something completely wrong with the production and distribution of video games and gaming wouldn't be as big as it was today.
Financially speaking this done to increase prices down the road, lock people into an eco system and make people dependent on their platform by creating sunk-cost fallacy. All your eggs in one basket. Because once you spend 1000's of dollars into your account. Its going to be really hard to just give it up. Because you can't just go out and sell your collection on ebay.
But yeah tell me again why this is supposed to be good for you as a customer. You are willingly becoming the products and you don't even realize it.
@Rainmaker1973 The sad part of the story... in 2017 no family members were willing to take over the business and it ended up getting transferred over to a holding company. Crazy to think, after 1,300 years of operation no one wanted to continue the legacy. Times sure are changing.
@bunburyoudoujp The offerings aren’t bad, but for a single diner they limit you to two items per order (no actual random sushi on the conveyer belt you can just grab anymore) and I’ve found it to be realllly slow. Is there any actual 回転寿司 left in Japan after covid or is it all like this now?
