Artist of the day: Akihiko Yoshida
Born on February 15 1967, in Japan, Akihiko Yoshida is one of the most respected and elegant character designers in the video game industry. He started his career in the early ’90s and joined Square in 1995, where he quickly became a key figure in creating some of the most memorable worlds in gaming.
His style is instantly recognizable: incredibly detailed yet refined with a perfect balance of realism and fantasy. Think intricate armor, flowing fabrics, expressive faces and a moody, painterly touch that makes every character feel like they belong in a living, breathing epic.
