We are seeking woodworkers and / or furniture makers to bid on two multi-use furniture pieces for our South Shore Day Care project currently under construction in Chicago!
Follow us over the next two weeks as we dive a bit deeper into a handful of outdoor cold weather proposals to help keep all of us a bit healthier and happier during this uniquely isolating midwest winter. #urbaninterventions#urbandesign#cityofchicago#chicago#CDOT#equity
This upcoming winter is going to be different with COVID around. Let's make it a good one with safe, outdoor activities to keep our bodies fit and our minds healthy. We're planning ahead - what activities would you like to see? #covid#chicago#winter2020#chicagowinter
What do we envision for Chicago winter? How about.....Cross-country skiing along the lakefront. Fat tire biking through the parks and forest preserves. Ice fishing at the harbors. Hockey rinks in every neighborhood. Curling competitions.

We have been thinking about how architecture can impact or influence our lives during COVID. The first idea we will be investigating is how to transition outdoor summer activities (Slow Streets, street dining, outdoor exercise) into the winter months. #chicago#covid#urbanplanning
#Chicago shows its true colors & willingness to help out & get involved- over 70% of all respondents said they wanted to participate in neighborhood meetings to establish soft street routes, & over 50% said that they would help maintain & manage the routes. #slowstreets
[ CALL to ACTION Thread ] Hey Chicago Bike Twitter. You've likely heard work is underway to bring #slowstreets to Chicago. The reality is, it's not over till it's over. We need everyone to rally together & show their support. https://t.co/P4MxkdaZqa
Overall, our peace of mind & physical wellness has suffered during this pandemic-survey respondents report lower motivation to exercise, anxiety, decreased levels of happiness. This is a direct result of closed gyms & parks. Access to space outside is essential to our wellbeing!
One thing is for sure- the majority of Chicagoans support opening up streets for socially-distant outdoor space. We say let's do it! We are happy to see @chicago taking the first steps.

Many city dwellers, trying to maintain social distance, are avoiding public transit. If they replace bus or subway trips with car rides, congestion could grow dire. https://t.co/rvR4niKzhF
What would a #slowstreet network look like in #Chicago? Is it applicable throughout the state? Here is a way we see this happening as a promenade plan-

any thoughts @GovPritzker ?
We agree @AldMattMartin@ChicagoDOT , folks want to get outside! We put together a plan of how #slowstreets might work, it has gotten some traction here in #Chicago, take a look- https://t.co/p7pKHxsJhd
Our office is in active communication with CDOT about options to relieve pedestrian congestion on residential streets during COVID-19.
Let us know where you see crowding on sidewalks โก๏ธhttps://t.co/xP6YBOkpa7
@Kristil@streetsblogchi We really believe that it is a neighborhood decision as to how to organize and structure rules. We found that almost half of the people we surveyed would be willing to participate in some level of work to maintain the open spaces, so we know there is an interest.
