Thirty-five years later, the struggle and sacrifice of the people of Republic of Somaliland stand at a historic and remarkable height that history itself will long remember.

The Republic of Somaliland today is no longer a nation waiting for others to determine its destiny; it is a RECOGNIZED STATE that has demonstrated that the will of its people, peace, democracy, and responsible statehood are far stronger than CONFLICT, BLOODSHED, POLITICAL INSTABILITY, and the despair that emerges when the citizens lose faith in their government that neither respects their own people nor upholds the dignity of their constitution in the eyes of the world.

Today, Somalilanders at home and abroad are celebrating a nation built through sacrifice, resilience, patience, determination, patriotism, and genuine national devotion. It is a country shaped by principled and seasoned leaders with dignity & dignity, and a political culture that has consistently sought to place the interests of its people and nation above all else.

The story of The Republic of Somaliland is ultimately a testament to what a united, determined, and peace-loving people can achieve when guided by vision, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to their national destiny.

📰Solidarity with Somaliland and Condemnation of China and the OIC’s Hypocrisy

The East Turkistan Government in Exile (ETGE) extends its full solidarity to the people of Somaliland (@somalilandmfa), a Muslim-majority nation that has pursued external self-determination and established a stable, democratic society since 1991 through a legitimate process of decolonization.

This legitimate quest for independence parallels our own struggle in East Turkistan, where Chinese colonial occupation, now entering its 76th year since December 22, 1949, has inflicted an ongoing genocide marked by physical and cultural erasure and the systematic destruction of our Turkic Muslim identity. This May, China’s intensified genocide campaign, initiated in May 2014, will enter its twelfth year.

As an anti-colonial government-in-exile, the ETGE denounces the persistent structures of colonialism that continue to oppress Muslim peoples and deny them their inherent right to independence and sovereignty.

The pursuit of independence in both East Turkistan and Somaliland represents a rightful exercise of national self-determination and decolonization, fully consistent with international law and United Nations principles on decolonization and self-determination, principles that both China and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (@OIC_OCI) have repeatedly endorsed when applied to other peoples.

We must therefore underscore the profound hypocrisy of the OIC and many of its member states. While the OIC claims to uphold the rights and dignity of Muslim peoples, it has repeatedly endorsed and legitimized China’s ongoing campaign of colonization, genocide, and occupation against the Uyghur, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, and other Turkic peoples of the Muslim-majority nation of Occupied East Turkistan by praising China’s genocidal actions as so-called “counter-terrorism” and “de-radicalization.”

These actions enable China to deny the East Turkistani people their fundamental right to self-determination and anti-colonial resistance, while concealing a genocide involving the mass detention of millions of Muslims, forced labor, forced sterilization, organ harvesting, family separation, and the systematic destruction of our faith, language, and culture.

China’s ongoing genocide in Occupied East Turkistan constitutes the most severe and systematic persecution of a Muslim population in history. The OIC, influenced by powerful member states driven by political and economic dependence on Beijing, has consistently suppressed calls for accountability. In doing so, it has betrayed the Uyghur and other Turkic Muslims of Occupied East Turkistan and undermined its own founding commitment to defend oppressed Muslims and uphold core Islamic principles of justice, dignity, and protection of the vulnerable.

The ETGE calls on the OIC and its member states to adopt consistent, principled standards. This requires recognizing and condemning the ongoing genocide in East Turkistan; formally recognizing East Turkistan as an occupied country; supporting accountability and justice, including by backing East Turkistan’s complaint before the International Criminal Court; and affirming the East Turkistani people’s right to independence, national self-determination, and decolonization through meaningful moral, political, and material support. Genuine Islamic solidarity demands decisive action against all forms of oppression, not selective silence shaped by geopolitical convenience.

We further condemn China’s efforts to undermine the legitimate national self-determination, decolonization, and independence struggles of occupied and colonized peoples, as well as those facing coercion or denial of international recognition, including East Turkistan, Tibet, Southern Mongolia, Somaliland, and Taiwan.

Mr. Gideon Sa’ar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, and a high-level delegation on an official visit to the Republic of Somaliland, the first such visit by a foreign minister in 34 years after recognition. I conveyed my deep appreciation to the Government of Israel for its historic and courageous decision of 26 December 2025 to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland. This milestone reflects a relationship founded on mutual respect and shared interests, aimed at cooperation and stability without prejudice to any party.

I emphasized that this recognition opens a new chapter of formal diplomatic relations, security, economic, and development cooperation, serving the mutual interests of both nations and contributing positively to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

I also reaffirmed that Somaliland is a reliable and responsible partner, strategically positioned and committed to advancing regional and international peace, security, and constructive engagement.
