Being an Isaq in Mogadishu today feels a lot like being Japanese in America after Pearl Harbour.
The ugly resurgence of anti-Somaliland and anti-Isaq hate is the worst in decades.
I feel some empathy for the Isaq MPs and politicians who issued a statement yesterday.
They are humans and caught in a very difficult situation.
But I don't share in there futile dream of Somali unity and have little sympathy for their belated admission Somaliland opted to seek international recognition after it realised talks with Mogadishu were hopeless because they were conducted in bad faith.
They had known this for decades and yet kept silent.
The Somaliland elite in Mogadishu fed Mogadishu's delusions, aided and abetted its coercive strategy to compel Somaliland to capitulate.
They cannot have it both ways.
Choices have consequences.
The honourable thing is to resign en masse, relocate to Hargeisa and help rebuild their own homeland.
#BREAKING
Somaliland President Abdirahman Irro is expected to visit the USA for talks with the US government.
Precise dates hard to confirm.
The president is expected to offer the Trump Administration 'a deal it cannot refuse,' according to sources.
In return for recognition, Somaliland will grant the US following assets:
1. Full lease for the use of Berbera military base.
2. Access to 850- km-long coastline, straddling Africa's most strategic waterway.
3. A space port.
4. Partnership on rare earth minerals.
5. Oil and gas.
Somaliland had successful elections and opposition actually won! How unlikely are these events in so many countries; especially the second?! They deserve all the applause they are getting - including from US Govt. I hear teeth gnashing in Mogadishu!

#Somaliland's aviation management under Somalia's control has left us overwhelmed. What's even more alarming is the former Minister of Airports in Somaliland, now @MYKAAHPARTY leader and government critic, who shamefully green-lighted this move, adding to his long list of... 1/2
What's funny is that everyone thinks that VIPs fly at 5:30 in the morning or that they fly on DASH-8.. 🤣
This flight was not going to Hargeisa. As is clear from the routing being ADD to ADD. It was a maintenance or training flight to Jijiga and back.. hence it neatly circling above the town before returning to ADD.
This is all cope and coverup for a domestic audience.
The Memorandum of Understanding between Ethiopia and Somaliland outlines three critical components:
1. **Recognition**: By officially acknowledging Somaliland as an independent state, Ethiopia sets a precedent as the first African country to do so. This move is particularly impactful given Somaliland's long-standing quest for global recognition since its 1991 declaration of independence from Somalia.
2. **Lease of Maritime Area**: In a significant stride towards enhancing its maritime capabilities, Ethiopia has secured a 20-square kilometer stretch of Somaliland's coastal waters. This lease grants Ethiopia, which has no coastline of its own, vital access to the Red Sea. The agreement opens up new avenues for trade, logistics, and military positioning, marking a crucial step in Ethiopia's strategy to broaden and safeguard its maritime access.
3. **Berbera Port Utilization**: Gaining access to the strategically positioned Berbera Port is a game-changer for Ethiopia's trade network. Located on the Gulf of Aden, the port offers Ethiopia a valuable alternative route for importing and exporting goods, diminishing its dependence on other ports and significantly bolstering its trade and strategic regional influence.

Saddened to see the aftermath of the fire in Hargeisa with such destruction in the open market that is the economic heart of the city, affecting many small and family enterprises.
Your city will rise again and the UK will do what we can to support Somaliland’s rebuilding effort.

After 20 years of “tiresome” Afghan war, the US is set to end its mission in a matter of days. But despite the reported 300,000 Afghan army and police trained by the Int’l Community, the Taliban are on the verge of taking over most of the country. What is the lesson for Somalia?
