On June 4, https://t.co/XFU7OCW0pZ launched $LA perpetual futures. Within seconds, the price spiked from $0.60 to $25 — a 40x explosion. Mass liquidations followed (over $18M). Here's what happened:
The root cause? A broken index. @Gate_io built its price index using spot prices from several exchanges — including KuCoin, known for low liquidity.
On @kucoincom, $LA suddenly pumped to $50 (while it stayed near $5 everywhere else). That KuCoin price warped the index — which pushed https://t.co/XFU7OCW0pZ's futures sky-high.
🤯 Imagine having a futures position, fully collateralized — but suddenly, you need 40x more margin just because one low-liquidity exchange glitched. You're wiped out instantly. Unfuckinreal.
