Great turnout for our first #PlasticPelletBlitz! 7,022 pellets were removed from 23 quadrats. From those tallies we estimate that section of beach has >2.8 million plastic pellets! We can't wait to lead this again next year and loved meeting everyone! #FightingFloatablesTO
So close! Cigarette butts were the number one item collected by trash traps in the network last year, and were also the top item in 2021 and 2022! 🚬#binyourbutts
The @UofTTrashTeam's International Trash Trap Network has released its 2023 report detailing the most-collected debris found on beaches and in waterways! 🌊🚮📊
What do YOU think the most-collected item was? 👀

If you are #TrappingTrash and recording data, have you tried the new Clean Swell® App yet?! As of July 31st, Data Trapper App will be closing, so download it today to get started! https://t.co/oL2gj6OLe4
SO excited to finally share this news! The Clean Swell® app has been used to record cleanup data for decades with the #InternationalCoastalCleanup and now groups in the #InternationalTrashTrapNetwork can feed their data straight into this global database.
(1/4🧵) Calling all trash trappers! We’ve just launched a new version of the Clean Swell® app with
@OurOcean making it easier for trash trap users to record and share your cleanup data with the #InternationalTrashTrapNetwork. Watch a demo video here: https://t.co/x0BQ2QsmL3
Guess what today is? It's the 1st day of our Fighting Floatables field season. Our student researchers are along the waterfront categorizing floatable plastic pollution caught in #TrashTraps. Here's a peek at the team in training, look at them go! #FightingFloatablesTO
The ITTN's data collection protocols can be adapted for different devices, including LittaTraps! Looking forward to seeing what you capture @ecosuperior@kennedybucci1
Tackling #PlasticPollution one source at a time, our list of pollution prevention projects is growing. Currently we study microfibers, cigarette butts, wet wipes, pre-production pellets, paint, single-use foodware and foam! #BeatPlasticPollution https://t.co/0P5W4f2Jq4
We've come a long way since creating the International Trash Trap Network with @OurOcean in 2021! Together, we support groups around the world to trap trash on their waterways and quantify this impact in the #InternationalCoastalCleanup. #BeatPlasticPollution
We are the blue planet – rivers, oceans, we depend on them. 🌎
So how do we turn off the tap of plastic pollution? Watch our new short film about the inspiring work of the Clean Currents Coalition.

The ITTN 2023 Report is here! Over the last three years, cigarette butts have consistently been the top macrodebris item (>2.5cm) reported throughout the network, and plastic foam has also been the top microdberis item (<2.5cm).
The 2023 International Trash Trap Network results are in! Check out our report below to see how local groups in the network worked hard #TrappingTrash to increase cleanup efforts last year, collecting both macro and microplastics from their local waterways and coastlines.
Thrilled to have been part of this project looking at microplastics in grocery food w/ @OurOcean. Read more here to learn about this work and more (and even a bit about my current work at IISD-ELA!)

Today marks 3 yrs since we launched the International Trash Trap Network with @OurOcean! 98 trash traps in the network, using 11 different technologies to cleanup, collect data, engage communities & inform upstream solutions to #PlasticPollution. Happy bday ITTN! #TrappingTrash
So, what do Americans really think about plastic pollution? Our recent study seeked to find out! Read a summary of the research in my latest blog with @OurOcean https://t.co/rLTKKsMxij
