From the very beginning, hearing about this woman and what she has done has been disturbing. —But what’s even more disturbing is the deeper truth beneath her behavior: she is a broken, wounded soul.

She doesn’t act like it or speak as though she is, but her choices reveal that she has no respect for herself. And because of that, and because she is not saved I feel compassion for her.

Just as Jesus said on the cross, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do,” this woman truly does not understand the spiritual harm she is causing herself.

Oh, she knows she is sleeping with multiple men, but she has no spiritual understanding of the damage being done to her own soul.

Now she is pregnant — and this is where grace can enter.

How many times in our own lives, in our own sin, have people conceived a child outside of marriage? Maybe not through hundreds of encounters, but it only takes one man, and one woman.

And often, that unexpected child becomes the very thing God uses to change a person’s life.

So I pray, in the name of Jesus, that this child will be the turning point for her — that she will slow down, recognize that her life must change, and that the Lord will use this moment to draw her into repentance.

I pray she becomes a testimony to the power of God, and that her baby grows up loved by both his mother and by Jesus. —saving them both.

Never forget that it is the Spirit of God who gives life.

Because of that, I feel no desire to mock her, no matter what she has done. She needs prayer. She needs genuine love. She needs compassion more than condemnation.
