Tom Hardy, under the alias Frankie Pulitzer, just dropped a collaborative album called “Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer,” which features him rapping about all things pop culture.

In the song “Raw Forever,” Hardy loads his verse with references to Martin Scorsese’s 1999 film “Bringing Out the Dead,” Willem Dafoe’s portrayal of the Green Goblin, Doctor Doom, the DC Comics hero Sergeant Rock and Sidney Lumet’s classic 1975 film “Dog Day Afternoon”:

Quentin Tarantino just got paid over $20 million for a $200 million movie he refuses to direct. And he still owns the script.

He's spent 20 years telling everyone he retires after his 10th film. Cliff Booth was on track to be number 10. He decided a sequel wasn't how he wanted to go out, so instead of selling the screenplay, he sold Netflix a one-picture license. Netflix gets to make the movie once. Tarantino keeps the underlying work forever.

Then one decision moved the whole $200 million. Tarantino was originally going to direct this at Sony, the studio that turned the first film's $90 million budget into $377 million and 10 Oscar nominations. When he stepped back, Brad Pitt called David Fincher, his director on Se7en, Fight Club, and Benjamin Button. Fincher only makes movies for Netflix. So the project followed him there, and Sony watched the sequel to its biggest original hit of the era walk out the door.

The above-the-line math is wild. Pitt is making $40 million to star and produce. Fincher gets $20 million. Tarantino's license came in over $20 million. That's $80 million to three names before a single frame was shot, 40% of the entire budget.

The first movie cost $90 million total.

So the director who spent his whole career preaching 35mm and packed theaters just wrote the most expensive streaming film of the year. It gets an IMAX window, then lives on Netflix forever.

Tarantino found the loophole in his own retirement. He collects the biggest script payday of his career, and the movie doesn't even count.

Nine years ago, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson were sitting on a porch while vacationing together in Greece with their families. Their kids were sharing pictures of their fathers from when they were younger, amazed at how similar the two actors looked. “Everyone’s going, ‘Man, you two: Those mannerisms are the same, you look alike. It’s like you're brothers!’” remembers McConaughey. Everyone laughed, and then McConaughey’s mother, in a perfectly timed comedic bit, turns to Harrelson and says, “Oh, I knew your father.”

But it wasn’t a joke. McConaughey’s mother revealed for the first time that she had known (yes, in the Biblical sense) Harrelson’s father before McConaughey was born. They did the math, and realized there was a possibility that the actors were not only best buddies, but half brothers. “Woody believed it from the get-go, and I don’t believe it from the get-go,” McConaughey tells Vanity Fair.

The possibility has become one of Hollywood’s most fascinating rumors—and now it’s the inspiration for Apple TV’s new comedy series, ‘Brothers.’ McConaughey and Harrelson play fictionalized versions of themselves, as they grapple with a decades-old secret that’s been unearthed.

McConaughey and Harrelson are quick to emphasize that while the characters have their names, the series is very much a fictionalized version of their story. But still, the friendship captured onscreen is true to life, and an interesting peek into one of Hollywood’s most enduring bromances. “They just love each other,” says ‘Brothers’ showrunner Lee Eisenberg. “They just really enjoy one another like brothers.”
