Pierce Brosnan was officially announced as the fifth actor to play James Bond on June 8, 1994, during a global press conference held at the Regent Hotel in London. At this event, it was also announced that his debut film would be GoldenEye.

When Ian Fleming created Ernst Stavro Blofeld he reportedly took the name from John Blofeld, a member of the Boodle's club, a London gentleman's club Fleming was a member.
