😂 Femi Otedola drops $14 million for Northern children and reminds us “you can’t take it to heaven” commendable gesture, no doubt.
But let’s compare: Aliko Dangote has poured billions through his foundation (hundreds of millions annually) into nutrition, education, and health across the North and beyond. Tony Elumelu’s foundation has empowered thousands of young entrepreneurs with funding and training. Jim Ovia, TY Danjuma, and others have built schools, hospitals, and scholarships that outlast single donations.
Otedola’s act is big and welcome, but these guys show sustained, systemic giving. The real tragedy? No amount of billionaire charity can fix the governance failure, looting, and policy disasters that keep Northern kids (and the rest of Nigeria) in poverty, banditry, and illiteracy year after year.
Philanthropy is good, but accountable leadership that builds working systems is better. Elites giving back is nice stopping the systemic theft that creates the need is revolutionary.
Nigerians dey watch who’s truly solving problems.
