Almost Nobody Is Studying It.

NSE → Market Data → Closing Auction Session (CAS)

What should you actually look at?

1. Values ⭐️

This is the most useful column.

Example:

ICICI Bank → 89.46 Cr
Reliance → 82.55 Cr
HDFC Bank → 64.33 Cr

Large values indicate heavy institutional participation during the close.

If one stock suddenly jumps from 15 Cr to 120 Cr on another day
Institutions are likely active.

That’s worth investigating.

2. Final Quantity ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Shows how many shares traded during CAS.

Large quantity means

ETF rebalancing
Mutual funds
Index funds
Big institutional execution

Not retail.

3. % Change ⭐⭐⭐

Compare:

Reference Price vs Final Auction Price.

If auction price closes significantly above reference price:

→ Strong buying into the close.

If significantly below:

→ Strong selling into the close.

What NOT to do:

Don’t buy because a stock has 100 Cr in CAS.

Instead ask

Who is buying?

Why are they buying at the close?

Does the chart support it?

In my close knit gatherings, someone mentioned a stock
and said
“Achhi company hai. 10 - 20 saal rakh do.”

“Buy and Forget” created massive wealth for investors who picked the right stocks in 2000 - 2010.
But does the same strategy still work in 2026?

When can businesses get disrupted faster than your money can compound?

Think about it:

→ Technology changes faster.
→ Consumer behaviour shifts faster.
→ New competitors can scale faster.
→ Competitive advantages can disappear.
→ Management can change.
→ A great business today can become an average business tomorrow.

Yet many investors still believe:
"Achhi company hai. 10-20 saal rakh do."

But here's the catch:

LONG TERM investing ≠ BLIND investing.

You don't need to check the PRICE every day.
But you should periodically check the BUSINESS.

Ask:

→ Are earnings still growing?
→ Is debt under control?
→ Is the competitive advantage still intact?
→ Is management still executing well?
→ Does my original investment thesis still hold?

Because compounding needs TIME.
But TIME alone doesn't create wealth.

The BUSINESS needs to keep compounding too.

Maybe "Buy & Forget" needs an upgrade for today's world:

BUY. HOLD. REVIEW. REPEAT.

Not simply…

BUY. FORGET. HOPE.

பெரியசாமி. வயசு 60. காலைல 6 மணிக்கு கோவில் வாசல்ல உட்கார்ந்துடுவாரு. முன்னாடி ஒரு துணி விரிப்பு. அதுல பேனா, பென்சில், அழிப்பான், காம்பஸ். பிளாட்பாரம் கடை. ஆனா வியாபாரம் இல்ல.

பெரியசாமிக்கு ஒரு விதி. யார் பேனா கேட்டாலும் முதல்ல ஒரு கேள்வி கேப்பாரு. "தம்பி. பரீட்சையா."

"ஆமா தாத்தா. இன்னைக்கு கணக்கு பரீட்சை. பேனா மறந்துட்டேன்."

உடனே பெரியசாமி நல்ல பேனாவா எடுத்து கொடுப்பாரு. "இந்தா. இது ராசியான பேனா. நூறு மார்க் வாங்கிட்டு வா."

"காசு எவ்ளோ தாத்தா."

"காசு அப்புறம். முதல்ல பரீட்சை எழுது. மார்க் வந்து சொல்லு. அப்புறம் காசு தா."

பிள்ளைங்க சிரிச்சுட்டே ஓடிடும். திரும்பி வராது. பெரியசாமி கேக்கவும் மாட்டாரு.

மனைவி தங்கம் திட்டுவா. "யோவ். பைத்தியமா உனக்கு. பேனா ஒன்னு பத்து ரூபா. இப்படி சும்மா கொடுத்தா நாம என்ன திங்க. வாடகை யார் கட்டுவா."

பெரியசாமி பழைய டயரிய எடுப்பாரு. அதுல தேதி வாரியா எழுதியிருப்பாரு.
"12.03.2010 - ரமேஷ் - கணக்கு பரீட்சை - பேனா - பாக்கி"
"05.06.2011 - சுமதி - ஹிந்தி பரீட்சை - பேனா - பாக்கி"
"18.09.2013 - முருகன் - பத்தாவது பப்ளிக் - பேனா - பாக்கி"

டயரி முழுக்க பாக்கி. கூட்டி பார்த்தா மூவாயிரத்து சொச்சம் பேனா. முப்பதாயிரம் ரூபா.

"இத பாரு தங்கம். இது பாக்கி இல்ல. முதலீடு. ஒரு நாள் வரும்."

தங்கம் தலைல அடிச்சுக்குவா. "உன் முதலீடு மண்ணா போகுது. வயசாயிடுச்சு. இனிமே யாரு வர போறா."

இருபது வருஷம் ஓடிடுச்சு. பெரியசாமிக்கு இப்ப வயசு 80. கண்ணு மங்கிடுச்சு. காது கேக்கல. ஆனாலும் தினமும் கோவில் வாசல். அதே துணி. அதே பேனா. ஆனா இப்ப வியாபாரமே இல்ல. பிள்ளைங்க எல்லாம் ஜெல் பேனா. ஸ்கெட்ச். ஆன்லைன்.

ஒரு நாள் காலைல. கோவில் வாசல்ல ஒரு கார் வந்து நின்னுச்சு. உள்ள இருந்து ஒருத்தர் இறங்கினாரு. வயசு 35 இருக்கும். கோட் சூட். கையில ஒரு பூங்கொத்து.

நேரா பெரியசாமி கிட்ட வந்தாரு. கால்ல விழுந்தாரு. "தாத்தா. என்ன தெர��யுதா."

பெரியசாமி கண்ண கசக்கினாரு. "தம்பி. வயசாயிடுச்சு. சரியா தெரியல."

"தாத்தா. பதினெட்டு வருஷம் முன்னாடி. பத்தாவது பப்ளிக் எக்ஸாம். கணக்கு பரீட்சை அன்னைக்கு காலைல. நான் அழுதுட்டே வந்தேன். பேனா உடைஞ்சு போச்சு. வீட்ல காசு இல்ல. நீங்க தான் தாத்தா ஒரு பேனா கொடுத்தீங்க. 'ராசியான பேனா. நூறு மார்க் வாங்கிட்டு வா'னு சொன்னீங்க. காசு கேக்கல."

பெரியசாமிக்கு லேசா ஞாபகம் வந்துச்சு. "தம்பி. நீ..."

"நான் தாத்தா. முருகன். அந்த பேனால த���ன் கணக்கு எழுதினேன். 98 மார்க். பாஸ் ஆனேன். காலேஜ் போனேன். இன்னைக்கு நான் ஒரு சாஃப்ட்வேர் கம்பெனி வச்சிருக்கேன். பேரு 'பேனா டெக்னாலஜிஸ்' தாத்தா. உங்க பேனால தான் என் வாழ்க்கை ஆரம்பிச்சது."

தங்கம் பாட்டி வாசல்ல நின்னு கேட்டுட்டு இருந்தா. வாய பொத்திக்கிட்டு அழுதா.

முருகன் பர்ஸ் எடுத்தான். ஒரு கவர். "தாத்தா. அன்னைக்கு பத்து ரூபா பாக்கி. இன்னைக்கு வட்டியோட தரேன்." உள்ள ஒரு செக். பத்து லட்���ம்.

பெரியசாமி கை நடுங்குச்சு. "தம்பி. எனக்கு காசு வேண்டாம். நீ பெரிய ஆளா வந்துட்டியே. அதுவே போதும்."

"இல்ல தாத்தா. இது காசு இல்ல. நீங்க போட்ட முதலீடு. இன்னைக்கு ��ாபத்தோட திரும்ப வந்திருக்கு. இனிமே இந்த பிளாட்பாரம் வேண்டாம். உங்களுக்கும் பாட்டிக்கும் நான் இருக்கேன்."

அடுத்த நாள் பேப்பர்ல நியூஸ். "பிளாட்பாரம் தாத்தாவுக்கு சாஃப்ட்வேர் முதலாளி குருதட்சணை. பத்து லட்சம் பரிசு."

நியூஸ் பார்த்துட்டு அடுத்த நாள் இன்னொரு கார். "தாத்தா. நான் சுமதி. ஹிந்தி பரீட்சைக்கு பேனா வாங்கினேன். இப்ப ஹிந்தி டீச்சர்."

அடுத்து ரமேஷ். "தாத்தா. நான் இப்ப ஆடிட்டர். உங்க பேனா தான் என் முதல் பேலன்ஸ் ஷீட் எழுதுச்சு."

ஒரு வாரம். கோவில் வாசல் கல்யாண வீடு மாதிரி ஆயிடுச்சு. டாக்டர், இன்ஜினியர், கலெக்டர், போலீஸ். எல்லாரும் வரிசைல வந்து பெரியசாமி கால்ல விழுந்தாங்க. கையில பூ, பழம், கவர்.

தங்கம் பாட்டி பழைய டயரிய எடுத்தா. மூவாயிரம் பேரு. பாக்கி முப்பதாயிரம். ஆனா இப்ப வந்திருக்கு மூணு கோடி.

பெரியசாமி அழுதுட்டே சொன்னாரு. "தங்கம். நான் சொன்னேன்ல. இது பாக���கி இல்லனு. இது விதை. நான் விதைச்சேன். இன்னைக்கு காடா வளர்ந்து நிக்குது."

இன்னைக்கு மீனாட்சி கோவில் வாசல்ல ஒரு பெரிய கடை இருக்கு. பேரு "பெரியசாமி பேனா அங்காடி". வாடகை இல்ல. முருகன் வாங்கி கொடுத்துட்டான்.

கடைல போர்டு. "இங்க பரீட்சை எழுத போற பிள்ளைகளுக்கு பேனா இலவசம். மார்க் வந்து சொன்னா போதும். காசு அப்புறம்."

கீழ சின்னதா ஒரு வரி. "ஒரு பத்து ரூபா பேனா ஒரு உயிரோட வாழ்க்கைய மாத்தும். நம்புங்க."
