A great High Sheriff Justice service at Chelmsford Cathedral today. The chain gang of the county joining the judiciary and clergy for this wonderful annual tradition.
Hugely honoured and grateful to have been reselected as the @Conservatives parliamentary candidate for the Harlow constituency today. The hard work starts now! 💙
Very proud of @HannahforHarlow Hannah Ellis, who started in my former @HouseofCommons office doing work experience at 16 years and has just been reselected as @HarlowTories Parliamentary Candidate for Harlow at the election
The 20 per cent reduction in business rates announced by Andy Burnham in Harlow yesterday is the publican’s equivalent of stemming a burst keg with a beer mat. The average independent pub has seen its business rates bill more than double since 2024 because of the Labour Government’s cuts to Retail, Hospitality and Leisure rate relief.
Not only is this announcement completely insufficient for the pubs, clubs and music venues it applies to, but it entirely neglects our cafes, restaurants and high street shops, whose business rates are also going through the roof.
Labour’s never-ending tax raids are decimating businesses, destroying jobs and driving up prices for customers. The Conservatives would scrap business rates for thousands of high street businesses, including pubs, shops and restaurants, and would pay for it by cutting out-of-control welfare spending.
It is businesses that create the wealth that pays for everything the Government spends. In Harlow, and across our country, they deserve more than sticking-plaster solutions.
The Church of England is taking £100 million away from parish churches, to spend on slavery reparations.
But their plan was based on false history - and is illegal under charities law.
It's time for the Church to abandon its disastrous 'Project Spire'.
And yet rough sleeping doubled during his tenure as mayor of Greater Manchester. As did homelessness. The figures are easy to find. Yet no one has bothered to look. I talked about this on my show last week. In addition, bus travel has declined by 12%.
We're taking a smarter approach to the buildings and land we own.
Using better information, smarter management and long-term planning, we'll make better use of our buildings and land, reduce waste and unlock more investment for residents.
It's another step in transforming the council as we Build Harlow's Future.
I will curb my language but that tweet is disgusting. You profess to be an advocate of human rights, and the right to be treated with dignity after death is a basic human right everyone should have, yet you rejoice in her death. Yes, her religion guided her views on equality issues, and I had many disagreements with her, but as a gay man I counted her as a friend, as did many others. She was actually a profoundly kind person. She endorsed my candidacy knowing of my sexuality. She softened her views on equal marriage and told me in 2019 she would not support reversing it.
So be ashamed of yourself today, Peter. You do some great work, but in this instance it's you that's the bigot. Bigoted against the dead, and bringing upset to those of us who counted Ann as a friend. Think on that.
