It’s a profoundly sad day for Europe.

The new Hungarian government is systematically shutting down conservative institutions across the country, delivering a heavy blow to intellectual diversity and open debate.

One of the most painful casualties is the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC). Having seen its work firsthand, I can attest that MCC has been a genuine force for good, nurturing and inspiring Hungary’s young people, equipping them with knowledge, critical thinking, and opportunities they would struggle to find elsewhere.

It has hosted open debates, delivered high-quality education, and helped a new generation of students grow and prosper.

“Shame” does not even begin to describe what is happening. This is war on conservative institutions in Hungary and, by extension, an assault on the broader spirit of pluralism in Europe.
