@foolsball But how often are the Il-76s still seen flying around, for example at different airports? We can consider their time as over by the end of 2026?
Tejas Mk1A stalls again. The sixth GE F404 engine delivered in May has failed acceptance parameters, leaving HAL with just five serviceable engines. Rectification sought from GE; radar integration progress due by September.

@foolsball Hopefully, you will be right. But as mentioned, we will face a heavy wave of nonsense post, making it harder to get our fact-based stuff to be seen.
@foolsball@AlexLuck9 Yes, it is actually two training carriers and one active one. To really operate in two theatres, it will need about six fully operation ones. Still a long way to go...
on August 7, 1988. An Angolan Air Force MiG-23 fired two R-60 (AA-8 Aphid) missiles at the British Aerospace BAe-125 carrying Botswana President Quett Masire, crippling the aircraft before the pilot managed a successful emergency landing in a bush airstrip at Cuito Bie,angola
Yes, China has way more to offer, but
a, will China export to Iran and the later being able to pay for it?
b, will Iran accept Chinese transport aircraft like Y-20BE?
As we've already said Iran will need to rebuild the air force significantly, even more than before with these losses. Personally think China and its massive production capacity has more to offer than Russia.
Usual tired reminder that production "restarts" are not a thing, in defence or elsewhere. There is no line where you just flick bunch of switches back on.
You are building a new line, for what is essentially a new product.
With the corresponding cost.

Yes, a valid comment! A production line being closed for 10+ years means, it is a whole new project!
And as a gentle reminder, right now the West does not offer any transport aircraft in this class! Only the smaller C-130J and KC-390 are in production.

@HarpiaP Indeed. Ideally we’d have an Airbus for fighter aircraft. Could just be Airbus. But France is the huge stumbling block. Germany and Spain should join GCAP - no matter the deal they get in terms of industrial policy and workshare.
@HarpiaP Germany is out of the fighter-aircraft-building game. If it was ever really in it. That’s ok tbh. We can always just buy a few hundred GCAP fighters off the rack. As long as there’s one non-American, non-Chinese product on offer we can live with that.
