Unbelievable quote from @RishiSunak,
" I can't control who I fall in love with"
It's beyond galling for our members who are not allowed to be in the UK because of who they fell in love with to hear this

We have a human right to family life - please consider signing this petition so that the govt debates this issue in parliament. We’re a fraction of total immigrants but this might affect you or someone you love https://t.co/5w3ZBI9TL8
The government is set to increase the minimum income requirement for UK spouse visas to £38.7k - this must be earned by the British partner for 6 months before application . Impossible for the majority of UK employees. Please consider signing

Spouses coming to the UK spend over £10k on visa fees incl. NHS payments and have no recourse to public funds. It is deeply unconservative to split up families but that is what this govt is doing through a minimum income over 70% don’t meet
@ShoaibMKhan Since you tweeted this, the MIR has increased to £29k and is still set to increase to £38.7k next year. Please consider signing this petition so that the govt debates this issue: https://t.co/5w3ZBI9TL8
This petition against increasing the income requirement for family visas to £38,700 is nearly at the threshold to be debated in Parliament – we’ve signed!

@dave43law@ukhomeoffice The assessment published is rushed & wrong - suggestion those affected can rely on a human rights application when HO knows they can’t with current rules. Those on a spouse visa don’t cost taxpayers as no recourse to public funds & high fees
@ukhomeoffice Unbelievably poorly thought through & analysis is flawed. How can people rely on humans rights applications when the bar is so high? Should be challenged in court
@matt_dathan Thanks for sharing this. The Times article should highlight the “similar amount in savings” is based off 16k + 2.5x the minimum threshold & also HO suggestion couples rely on human rights appeals is flawed as the current threshold is extremely high
1/ Today @ReuniteDiv spoke to #PoliticsLive about the new increase to the income threshold that will block many 1000s of families from living together here in the UK. The govn continue to argue they are protecting the taxpayer. The spouses have No Recourse to Public Funds [NRPF]
@ukhomeoffice@RishiSunak@JamesCleverly 73% of people in the UK don’t meet this income criteria - it’s deeply unconservative to split up families and this should be challenged on human rights grounds
@ukhomeoffice@RishiSunak@JamesCleverly This is incorrect - firstly, the govt announced it would be £38,700 and second, dependants on family visas aren’t eligible for public funds and pay UK visa fees as well as an annual NHS health surcharge so they are already supporting themselves
A needlesssly negative & hurtful proposed piece of legislation. Stop the Increase of UK Spouse Visa Financial Requirements - If you feel able, please sign the petition. https://t.co/wr3ONex6Zs via @UKChange
@ShoaibMKhan My husband is here on a spouse visa and I am very happy to speak to my experiences of the immigration system and my conservative MP’s dismissive response to the concerns I raised about the increase in fees. Doesn’t feel worth contacting him about the new minimum wage requirement
