A view of the sun taken at around 2pm today (Tuesday 2 December 2025).

This may be interesting in a few days time.

There is significant sunspot activity on the surface of the sun...with the obvious large set of sunspots at the bottom left of the image. They are named 4294, 4296, and 4298.

There has been a major X1.95 flare from sunspot region 4296 with the coronal hole facing the Earth.

What could this mean? Well...we may be treated to aurora displays in a couple of days time (December 4)...but this obviously comes with a lot of caveats; timing, direction, speed, the Moon phase, weather/cloud etc.

Worth keeping an eye on the sky tho'

As a quick addition - each of the dark spots at the bottom left of the Sun are large enough to swallow the Earth many times over (but don't worry - the Sun isn't hungry and we're safe for now!)

A very thin hazy layer in the upper atmosphere, but managed to grab a sight of Comet Lemmon this evening - including a little of the tail structure.

This is a single image, but have a sequence of shots to stack when I can sit in front of the computer and process properly.
