Ideas, invention, geopolitics & the occasional challenge to conventional wisdom.

So, who is Harry Boota?
I've been on X / Twitter since 2013 and somehow managed to produce more than 12,000 posts/reposts without ever properly introducing myself. 😂
Perhaps it's time.
I'm 70 years old, but retirement and I have never really understood each other.
I spent 23 years in the Royal Navy, serving through the Falklands and the first Gulf War. I was an electronics engineer, working on radar, sonar and communications systems — back when repairing something actually meant finding out why it didn't work.
Since leaving the Navy I've been an entrepreneur, retailer, engineer, community representative and occasional inventor of things that probably shouldn't have entered my head in the first place. 😂
I run businesses. I experiment. I design things. I take things apart. Sometimes I even manage to put them back together.
I'm also deeply interested in human rights, geopolitics and injustice — and I'm quite prepared to challenge governments, institutions and conventional wisdom when I believe something doesn't add up.
I don't claim to have all the answers.
But I have retained one habit from engineering:
If something doesn't make sense, I want to know why.
So from now on, this account is going to be a little more organised.
There'll still be politics and human rights. But you'll also see engineering, inventions, business, science, technology, observations from seven decades of life — and probably the occasional completely mad idea that we'll try to determine isn't quite as mad as it first appears.
You won't always agree with me.
Good.
Agreement isn't a prerequisite for conversation.
If you're interested in ideas, evidence, debate and looking at familiar problems from unfamiliar angles, stick around.
I'm Harry Boota @HarryBoota
And apparently I'm not ready to retire just yet. 😉
A black man "I'm an Englishman"
Braverman "well...actually...no you're not"
An MP sitting in an English parliament involved in making laws to protect us all tells every black and brown person BORN here that they aren't actually English- because she set the bar at five generations and set it at white.
How is that patriotism?
Car Crash.
"I can't understand why we keep going to the well of the poorest in our society."
Sharon Graham, Unite's General Secretary, tells @bbcnickrobinson why she thinks wealth taxes should be the solution, not dropping the triple lock pension pledge.
Now it is official.
"In relation to Israels military operations in Gaza, we conclude that Israeli authorities are responsible for war crimes. Including extermination, murder, using starvation as a method of war, forcible transfer"
(UN Human Rights Council)
Wow.
So rather than challenge the point being made, you've decided to claim that Islam “normalises” the rape of humans and animals.
That's an extraordinary allegation about a religion followed by nearly two billion people.
So please substantiate it.
Show me the Qur'anic verse, authenticated Prophetic teaching or recognised body of Islamic jurisprudence which establishes rape of humans and animals as a “fundamental belief” of Islam.
Not an anti-Muslim website. Not a meme.
Not somebody else's post.
The Islamic source.
You made the allegation. The burden of proof is yours.
I'll wait.
👇🏻👇🏻Yet it is said that #Islam and #Muslims are the cause of violence and terrorism in the world, and they want everyone to believe that. 👇🏻👇🏻

Who started World War I?
Not Muslims...
Who started World War II?
Not Muslims...
Who killed nearly 20 million indigenous Australians?
Not Muslims...
Who dropped bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Japan?
Not Muslims...
Who killed nearly 100 million Native Americans in South America?
Not Muslims...
Who killed nearly 50 million Native Americans in North America?
Not Muslims...
Who kidnapped over 180 million Africans from Africa, of whom 88% died and were thrown into the sea? Who did this?
Not Muslims...
Terrorism or militancy was not initiated by Muslims, yet they are being defined as such.
If a non-Muslim commits a terrorist act, it's a crime! But if Muslims try to assert their rights, it's called terrorism...! Isn't this a well-planned conspiracy!!!???

Fair question. 👍
I've checked the figures after you asked. The post was based on statistics that have circulated online, but having now cross-checked them against primary and reputable datasets, some of the figures and rankings are outdated and several of the historical numbers are simply wrong.
For example, the authoritative SlaveVoyages project estimates about 12.5 million Africans embarked in the transatlantic slave trade, not 180 million. Modern international crime and alcohol datasets also don't reproduce several of the rankings in the post.
So I won't pretend otherwise simply because the post supports a point I agree with. Those figures need correcting.
The point I intended to make remains:
Terrorism, murder, theft, addiction and other social problems cannot honestly be explained by blaming an entire religion or its followers. Muslims should no more be collectively blamed for crimes committed by Muslims than Christians, Jews, Hindus or atheists should be collectively blamed for crimes committed by people who share their identity.
Thank you for challenging me on the source. Accuracy matters.
Ms @KemiBadenoch , history is rather more complicated than a political slogan.
The biblical #Israelites , the ancient kingdoms of #Israel , the Jewish people, the #Zionist movement and the modern State of Israel established in 1948 are related historically — but they are not interchangeable.
Jewish people undeniably have an ancient historical and religious connection to this land.
Acknowledging that should not be controversial.
But neither should acknowledging the other half of the history.
#Palestinians were already living there. The creation of Israel in 1948 was accompanied by war and the mass displacement of Palestinians—the #Nakba — creating a refugee population whose dispossession remains unresolved.
One people's history of persecution does not erase another people's history, their homes or their human rights.
And an ancient connection to a land cannot provide a modern government with unlimited political or territorial entitlement. If ancient history alone determined present-day sovereignty, much of the world's map could be reopened.
Nor should criticism of the policies of today's Israeli government be confused with hostility towards Jewish people.
@netanyahu government is not #Judaism , and the modern State of Israel is not the biblical Kingdom of Israel. Please educate yourself on this part.
Jewish history deserves respect.
Palestinian history deserves respect too.
History should help us understand the rights of both peoples—not be selectively edited to erase one of them.
