So much of war is about momentum.
A key goal of the Saudi-backed, Yemeni govt offensive is to reverse AA/Houthi momentum after losing Mokha. Even as anti-Houthi forces make slow progress up the West Coast, their losses in rural Taiz suggest the Houthis/AA have yet to lose it.
Yesterday, Holborn and St Pancras voted for hope.

Somalia’s effort to maintain regional ties over decades
Ethiopia state-affiliated news agency @EthiopianNewsA in an opinion piece accuses Somalia President of “betrayal” for aligning Somalia with a “coalition aimed at constraining Ethiopia’s vital development rights.”
President @HassanSMohamud this week told Al-Jazeera that Somalia was open to provide Ethiopia with commercial access to as many three of its seaports.
On historical perspective, Somalia always maintained closer relations with both Eritrea and Egypt, and (in recent years with Ethiopia).
Cairo supported Somalia militarily, and economically after Somalia gained independence in 1960, after Western countries failed to support Mogadishu militarily due to strong lobbying by Ethiopia.
Egypt supported Somalia even before the country gained independence by opening educational institutions throughout the country. Sudan has offered free education to Somali students for decades including during the civil war.
In recent history, Somalia and Ethiopia also enjoyed closer relations as Addis Ababa, sent troops to help Somali government, and fight al-Shabaab, along with other African countries, in particular Ugandan, Burundi, Djibouti and Kenya.
Eritrea has also supported Somalia to stand on its feet by training Somali government forces.
And Djibouti hosted the Arta Reconciliation Conference in 2000, one of the most consequential reconciliation conferences in Somalia’s history. Djibouti helped establish Somalia’s first Transitional National Government and laid the groundwork for the governments that followed.
Most recently, both Asmara and Cairo stood with Somalia diplomatically after Addis signed a controversial MOU with Somaliland, a move that deteriorated relations between Somalia and Ethiopia.
The two countries have since been improving their relations after mediation by Turkey.
@HassanSMohamud paid a courtesy visit to Addis Ababa where he met @AbiyAhmedAli on his way to El Alamein, Egypt.
Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia leaders issued a joint declaration calling for respect of the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sudan and rejecting establishment of parallel entities; supported the unity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and said governance of the Red Sea is the exclusive responsibility of the littoral states.
Ethiopia’s ministry of foreign affairs responded and said discussions should account for Ethiopia’s “legitimate interests and enduring connection to the Red Sea.”
Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia issue joint declaration after leaders’ summit, calling for respect of the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sudan and rejecting establishment of parallel entities; supported the unity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia; affirmed the principle of freedom of navigation and said the governance of the Red Sea is the exclusive responsibility of the littoral states, according to the statement.

Türkiye president @RTErdogan discusses building a spaceport in Somalia through a bilateral partnership, aiming to expand its own access to space and help develop Africa’s space sector.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the opening ceremony of the 77th International Astronautical Congress:
"In today's world, producing satellites is not enough to have a presence in space; one must also be able to access space.
Therefore, in our National Space Program, we have placed particular emphasis on the 'Access to Space and Spaceport' goal.
Taking into account Türkiye's geographical conditions, we are laying the foundations for a historic collaboration in the field of space with friendly and brotherly Somalia.
We have initiated the construction of the spaceport that we will establish in Somalia; we are resolutely continuing our efforts to implement this strategic project.
With our project, we aim to enhance Türkiye's capacity to access space while also contributing to the development of the space ecosystem on the African continent."
