I never believed that we were going to sign two midfielders; it didn't make much sense. However, I also never believed we would end up not signing even one, which is a risk.

But the point is, Chelsea never wanted to sign two midfielders and also didn't feel comfortable paying too much for players that weren't top targets.

We just have to buy Lamine Camara, even if it means paying the €60m asking price.

We don't have much choice or time at the moment. It's too much to risk not bringing in extra player in midfield.

I believe a lot in Valentin Barco, but I wanted him to adapt well to avoid poor performance that would crash his confidence.

Unfortunately, that won't happen. We need him now. Hopefully, he will be ready when selected in the Premier League.

Maybe, just maybe, Chelsea believe he's ready and trust him to deliver. He's our hope now. I'd rather see him in the starting lineup over Malo Gusto.

Monaco want to keep Lamine Camara now. Monaco don't want to sell the player before the deadline, so has to be something crazy. And for Monaco, €55m is not something crazy.

We could have signed a midfielder earlier, as soon as we realised that Enzo had made up his mind to join City.

It would have been easier to sign a midfielder before the deadline and control the narrative. If City turn up with the money, then fine; if not, they will be weaker and we will be stronger.

It's not really about money for me; rather, it's about who becomes stronger afterward. And that's Man City.

With Enzo leaving Chelsea finally have the chance to correct the squad building error they made when attempting to pair him with Caicedo

The next starting level CM Chelsea buys needs to be plug and play and most importantly a complementary fit for Caicedo

Dan Scott 🗣️ From a footballing perspective, I think Chelsea have handled this situation very poorly.

They held all the cards. Enzo Fernández still has six years left on his contract, so there was no real pressure to sell.

The bigger issue is who they are potentially strengthening. Manchester City are a direct rival for the Premier League, and Chelsea are helping improve a side they are supposed to be competing with.

Then you add the history with the manager involved. This is the same manager Chelsea previously felt had disrespected the club, yet they are now in a position where they could strengthen his new team.

That is where the decision becomes difficult to understand.

You only have to look at the Julián Álvarez Barcelona situation. Atlético Madrid were under serious pressure, but they understood that sometimes you have to protect your own sporting interests.

Not every deal has to be done.

And for me, the biggest concern is that Chelsea have not clearly improved themselves first. Instead, they risk making a direct rival stronger while leaving Xabi Alonso in a much more difficult position.

From a sporting point of view, that is very questionable management.
