We often tend to forget that Wasim delivered in so many ODI finals. A 6 under pressure in Nehru cup final, Australasia cup finals (1986 and 1990 (potm)), CWC final 1992, this C&U 2nd final in 1997 & killed the match within 1st hour in 1999 cocacola cup final.

Singapore Is Over 50 Times Richer Per Person Than Pakistan. Yet Its Prime Minister Flies Commercial, While Pakistan Maintains Special Aircraft for VIP Travel!

Singapore’s Prime Minister travels on regular commercial airlines, including budget flights. Pakistan’s Prime Minister, meanwhile, has access to specially maintained government aircraft for official travel.

Consider the contrast:

Singapore’s per capita GDP is approximately $99,000, compared with Pakistan’s per capita income of barely $1,900. Nearly 23% of Pakistanis live in extreme poverty.

Yet Pakistan continues to maintain an expensive culture of official privileges, special aircraft, luxury vehicles, large entourages and elaborate protocol.

The issue is not just how prime ministers travel. It is the culture of entitlement and the use of scarce public resources.

Why should a debt-burdened country demand sacrifices from ordinary citizens while protecting privileges at the top?

Fiscal discipline and accountability must begin with those in power.

Public office is a responsibility to serve, not an entitlement to luxury. Respect is earned through example, not extravagance.

Let me repeat what I said earlier:
My late father arrived in the UK in 1966 as a legal immigrant. He and his fellow Indian immigrants didn’t claim the entire country was theirs, didn’t kick 100s of 1000s of Brits out of their homes, and didn’t set up an Indian ethno-national state in the UK. If you’re too dumb or dishonest to understand the difference between normal, legal immigration and settler colonialism, that’s on you, not me.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal sb calls Pakistan’s economic stability “borrowed and stunted”. He could have added that this stability is at the cost of destroying the middle class and further impoverishing the poor.

In the 3 decades I have been observing our economy, I have not seen such economic hardship and hopelessness

This government has failed to undertake a single significant measure that brings about economic growth.

Pakistan today has the highest rate of petrol, diesel, electricity, gas and wheat flour in the region. Even our taxes, interest rates and inflation are the highest in the region.

After watching them for more than 4 years, we can safely say that this government has failed on the economy.

Pakistan did not hand Saeed Ajmal a Test debut until he was 31 years and 263 days old. For context, By that age Shane Warne was closing in on 400 Test wickets and Muttiah Muralitharan was closing in on 500. And then Ajmal was allowed just four years. Yet in those four years he built a statistical dominance that screamed across the globe, taking 178 Test wickets in 35 matches. More than five a game. Warne never managed that across 145 matches, and Murali only bettered it across 133. Overall he finished with 447 international wickets in 212 matches. Happy 49th birthday man

Science is the man, and the man had a peak. In 2011 he took 50 Test wickets in eight matches and finished the year as the leading Test wicket-taker in the world. On 24 November he became the No.1 ranked ODI bowler on the planet. He was 34 years old, and he had been a Test cricketer for two years.

Then England. January 2012, Andrew Strauss brings the No.1 ranked Test side in the world to the UAE, with a batting order sold to everybody as the best players of spin in the game. Ten for 97 in Dubai, including a career-best 7 for 55. Twenty-four wickets for the series at 14.70. England lose 3-0.

And he was not even turning it square. Line, flight, half a yard of arm speed, and an economy under 2.6 against batters picked specifically to handle exactly that.

They gave him a quarter of a career. He made sure nobody forgot his name, and plenty still have not. Faf du Plessis called him the toughest bowler he ever bowled to. Gautam Gambhir said the same. What a peak the man had. happy birthday man

Wasim Akram & Shoaib Akhter - Death Overs Master Class
9 March 1999. Jamshedpur🔥

Sri Lanka were cruising at 231/5, chasing Pakistan’s 246. The game seemed to be slipping away.

Then came Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar.

What followed was carnage.

Sri Lanka collapsed from 231/5 to 237 all out — losing their last 4 wickets for just 6 runs.

Wasim finished with 3/34. Shoaib took 2/44.

Pakistan won by 9 runs.

This was Pakistan's fast-bowling heritage at its terrifying best. ⚡🇵🇰

WACA TEST, FEB 1997 ( 5TH TEST)

Lara made 132 on a fast perth pitch and put west Indies in a strong position. Warne kept at him after the hundred and finally got him caught behind.

Lara won the innings. Warne still took the wicket. West Indies won the match by 10 wickets, Australia won the series 3-2 ..

That's the whole duel.

Pakistan has by far the highest electricity price in the region. A big reason is the high capacity costs (including unused capacity) we consumers have to bear. 52.6% of our electricity bill is just capacity cost.

According to NEPRA our dependable capacity is now 39,000 MWs and our daytime demand is 12,000 MW (due to proliferation of home and industrial solar).

Should we really be adding more capacity, especially capacity that will end up increasing our power bills? This is exactly what the government is proposing to do!

NEPRA just approved a $57 billion IGCEP capacity increase plan, which includes $47 bn in new capacity and $11 bn in new transmission infrastructure. This is in addition to the 8000 MWs of solar that NEPRA expects the consumers to install for self-generation. This is madness.

If there is one lesson about power policy that we should learn from 1994 to now is that it’s best for the government to stay out of the power business and not issue guarantees to buy power. Let private sector figure out the demand and risk their own capital.

If private sector thinks it can set up projects and sell power to DISCOs and consumers, let them put up the projects at their own risk. The government’s and regulator’s job should be to help establish a wholesale market for electricity and not issue guarantees for power purchases.

Just as we thought we would get rid of the yoke of capacity payments in a few years, our government is going ahead with projects that will bind us to high capacity payments for decades. This is how now to run a power policy.
